Greer Jr vs Plania takes place at The Bubble in Las Vegas, Nevada. The super bantamweight headliner marks the first fight of 2020 for both men. The ten-round contest tops the marquee of yet another Top Rank card. Leading the charge for boxing to return after COVID-19 delays. The event broadcasts on ESPN. Greer Jr has had some consistency issues in his last couple of fights according to some pundits. If Plania is to notch an underdog victory over Greer Jr, now would seem to be one of the better times to capitalize.

Odds taken June 15
The lone loss of Greer Jr’s pro career was in December 2015. Plania also has a singular blemish on his pro boxing record. Greer Jr is riding a 19-fight win streak heading into this bout opposite Plania’s eight-fight winning streak. Joshua Greer Jr has quick hands and has shown in certain instances that he has power. Mike Plania enters this bout on the heels of winning the vacant IBF North Amerian Super Bantamweight title. He bested Giovanni Gutierrez via unanimous decision in December of last year.
Top Rank Tuesday
Speaking of collecting championships, Greer Jr has been capturing some over the last couple of years. The WBC Continental Americas Bantamweight title and the WBO NABO Bantamweight title are all in Greer Jr’s clutches and presumably have prime places on his mantlepiece. The 120 lb catchweight bout still has strong implications for the 118 lb division throughout this calendar year. Though Greer Jr as a largely unspectacular KO rate of 55 percent, his KO of previously undefeated James Smith was an ESPN.com knockout of the year finalist.

A lot of Plania’s resume reads like that of a high-level club fighter’s. The bulk of his victories are over journeymen with lopsided records. The only real high profile test that Plania has had came in a losing effort to former titleholder Juan Carlos Payano. Greer Jr’s quality of competition has been objectively higher. While the two have a commensurate level of total bouts and total knockouts, context is important.

Picks for the Remainder of the Card
- Giovani Santillan vs Antonio DeMarco: Santillan is 25-0 and takes on a former titlist with over 40 fights in DeMarco. After ensnaring WBC gold at lightweight and some successes a welterweight, DeMarco’s recent run as a welter has seen him lose some steam. Though Santillan is undefeated, this fight is arguably his biggest test to date as a professional pugilist. In this rare battle of southpaws, I ultimately see Santillan getting it done. I think he will figure out the seemingly unwavering pace of DeMarco and get his hand raised on Tuesday night. Pick: Giovani Santillan (-471)
