Two of the newest teams in FBS face off in a Conference-USA showdown. The Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens (3-2) head to Jacksonville to face the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (3-3) on Wednesday, Oct. 15th, at 7 PM ET. AmFirst Stadium plays host on an ESPN broadcast.
I’ve selected three Wednesday night college football prop bets and provided my Delaware vs Jacksonville State predictions.
Delaware vs Jacksonville State Top Props
- Jacksonville State 2nd Half Moneyline (+120, DraftKings)
- Cam Cook Over 118.5 Rushing Yards (-135, Sleeper)
- Under 28.5 2nd Half Total Points (-115, Caesars)
While Delaware is listed as a favorite (-142, DraftKings), I expect the high-powered rushing offense of Jacksonville State to rule the day. Let’s break down the pieces of my prop bets.
Delaware vs Jacksonville State Predictions
Pick #1: Jacksonville State 2nd Half Moneyline (+120, DraftKings)
Jacksonville State has a 3-2-1 record in second halves this season. Delaware is 2-3 in second halves. The idea behind this prop is JSU’s devastating rushing attack. They are second in C-USA in PFF rushing grade (85.4), and they have had at least a 71.3 grade in five of six games.
Jacksonville State has a run rate north of 60%, wearing down opponents quarter by quarter. The only non-military school averaging more rush attempts per game than JSU is Rice.
The Gamecocks are also incredibly efficient at running the football, averaging 5.7 yards per rush, a top-15 mark in the country. Taking out sacks, they average a flat 6.0 yards per carry with a particularly dynamic duo in running back Cam Cook and quarterback Caden Creel.
Caden Creel has been a massive boon to the rushing attack in JSU’s last two games. He has eclipsed 100 yards in both contests, scoring in each. While his passing (40.5 season grade) and fumbling (three fumbles last week) have left something to be desired, the 6-foot, 200-pound Creel has been a rushing force. He has broken seven tackles in each of the last two games.
However, he is the second fiddle in the Jacksonville State rushing attack to running back Cam Cook.
Pick #2 Cam Cook Over 118.5 Rushing Yards
Cam Cook leads all FBS rushers with a whopping 832 yards, averaging north of 138 yards per game. He has cashed in with seven touchdowns, topping the conference.
The TCU transfer has been a workhorse for the Gamecocks, toting the rock at least 21 times in each of the last five games. He has eclipsed 120 yards four times, including a season-best 218 yards last week.
With this motif in mind, I expect Cook to be used early and often against a reasonable Delaware run defense.
While they have earned a 66.3 or better run-defense grade in all five games, Delaware has had some tackling issues. They have missed 10.6 tackles per game. Eleven different Delaware defenders have missed multiple tackles in run defense this season, with linebacker Gavin Moul leading the way with five.
Pick #3: Under 28.5 2nd Half Total Points

This under has hit in four of five Delaware games and four of six Jacksonville State games. Latching onto my other props, the goal here is for JSU to deaden the clock with long drives predicated on the rushing duo of Creel and Cook.
As long as the game is within reach, Jacksonville State will lean on its ground game to move the ball and chew up the clock. Last week, despite trailing at multiple points in the second half, Jacksonville State ran the ball 63 times against Sam Houston State. They had a whopping 35 minutes worth of time of possession, the fifth game in a row they held the ball for longer than their opponent.
Delaware has won the time of possession battle in each of its last three games, but they have a much more pass-oriented approach – over 61% of its plays are passes. Against such a run-heavy attack for the Gamecocks, Delaware’s pass-heavy approach could backfire and wear out its defense, particularly in the second half.
