The Lightning visit the Avalanche on Tuesday night in what could be a potential Stanley Cup Finals preview. Tampa Bay brings a five-game winning streak to Ball Arena after beating Utah 4-2 on Sunday. Colorado sits atop the Western Conference at 7-1-5 despite losing four of its last six games.

The matchup features two of the NHL’s elite teams, with both ranking in the top six in expected goals for and against per 60 minutes. The Avalanche are the only team in the league with more than seven regulation wins, while the Lightning have outscored opponents 17-9 during their current streak.

Puck drop is set for 9:30 pm ET from Ball Arena in Denver, with TNT handling the broadcast as the second game of their Tuesday doubleheader.

Lightning vs Avalanche Odds

Colorado is currently a -150 moneyline favorite on average and is laying 1.5 goals on the puck line at +160 odds. Tampa Bay comes back as a +125 underdog, while the total sits at 6.

My Lightning vs Avalanche prediction focuses on the goaltending advantage and Tampa Bay’s recent form. The Avalanche dominate possession metrics, posting a 60.08% shot share and controlling 61.54% of expected goals. They’re generating premium scoring opportunities with a 65.10% high-danger chance share.

But Colorado isn’t closing out games. They’ve lost four of their last six, with three overtime losses and two shootout defeats. The Avs are 0-5 in games that extend past regulation this season, which is the most in the NHL. They’re controlling play but not finishing when it matters.

Tampa Bay’s numbers are nearly as strong. The Lightning control 52.32% of shots and 61.01% of expected goals during their five-game winning streak. They hold a 68.12% expected goal share over that stretch, which is the best mark in the NHL. The Lightning have found success with a new-look top six featuring Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point and Brandon Hagel together.

The real edge comes in goal. Vasilevskiy has stabilized after a rough start, posting a .933 save percentage over his last three starts while allowing just four goals combined. He’s been elite against Colorado historically and enters this game in top form.

Scott Wedgewood has played well for the Avs with a 2.53 GAA in 11 games, but Colorado’s overall save percentage sits at .899, which ranks 12th. Tampa Bay is at .902 (9th), but Vasilevskiy specifically has been much better than that mark recently.

Jake Guentzel leads Tampa with 12 points, while Anthony Cirelli has seven goals. The Lightning are getting balanced scoring from throughout the lineup. For Colorado, Nathan MacKinnon leads with 19 points and 10 goals, while Cale Makar has 18 points with four goals and 14 assists.

The special teams battle is tight. Colorado’s power play sits at 16.33% (16th) while Tampa is at 14.63% (28th). Both penalty kills are elite – the Avs rank 5th at 89.74% and the Lightning sit 3rd at 90.00%.

Tampa Bay is dealing with injuries to Max Crozier and Nick Paul. Colorado is without Samuel Girard, Joel Kiviranta and Logan O’Connor, while Gavin Brindley is questionable.

The Lightning moneyline at +125 offers value in what should be a coin flip between two elite teams. The trends support Tampa – they’re 5-0 in their last five overall, 4-0 in their last four on one day’s rest, and 4-0 versus teams with winning records. The under is also appealing at 6-1-2 in the Lightning’s last nine games overall.

Tampa Bay has dominated this matchup recently, winning five of the last six meetings. The Lightning swept the season series last year with an 8-2 blowout in November and a 5-2 win in October. The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings, with three of Tampa’s four wins coming by multiple goals.

Andrei Vasilevskiy has been exceptional against Colorado, going 5-1 in his last six starts versus the Avs with a .931 save percentage and 2.15 GAA. Per the NHL odds, that head-to-head dominance is a key factor in tonight’s pricing.
