This spread has moved a lot. It opened at LSU -3.5, then quickly moved towards Vanderbilt. The Commodores moved from +3.5 to +1.5, and then eventually flipped to the favorite. The betting line continued to move towards Vanderbilt, getting them up to -2.5 before the spread moved back towards LSU. The spread now sits at Vanderbilt -1.5.

LSU started the season in a big way with a road victory over Clemson. It looked like their defense finally caught up to their offense, but now, a few weeks into the season, LSU is all defense. They are allowing just 11..83 points per game, and Ole Miss is the only team that has put up more than 400 yards against them.

The Tigers have been trying to figure out how to move the ball offensively, and Garrett Nussmeier has been disappointing. He threw two interceptions last week and has thrown five over his last five games.

In two road games this season, the Tigers have scored just 18 points per game. Vanderbilt has held teams to just 19.3 points per game. They have not faced the schedule that LSU has, but that number is still impressive.

This game will be a clash of Vanderbilt’s offense vs LSU’s defense. Whichever unit has the better game will get the win.

Vanderbilt is fourth in the SEC in rushing yards per game, putting up over 208 yards on the ground. Diego Pavia has been good through the air for this team, but he is also the leading rusher for this team, and the Vanderbilt offense is averaging 43.2 points per game.

If the Commodores go up early, it will be difficult for LSU’s struggling offense to keep up.

Pavia has had turnover issues himself, but I expect him to be better this week, coming off the bye. The Alabama game was a lot closer than the final score indicated.

The Commodores are 2-1 against the spread as a favorite and are 2-1 ATS at home this season. Vanderbilt is a good team, and they are favored in an SEC game for a reason.

While I believe Vanderbilt can cover the short spread, the moneyline odds of -120 still provide enough value for me to bet, which will still give us a win in a one-point game.

This should be a close game, and I believe Vanderbilt gets a huge win at home in CFB Week 8, beating LSU for the first time since 1990.
