Nick Minicucci fires a pass versus Western Kentucky in Conference USA play.
Delaware Blue Hens quarterback Nick Minicucci (4) winds up for a pass against Western Kentucky during Delaware's first home CUSA football game, which was nationally televised, at Delaware Stadium in Newark on Oct. 3, 2025. Western Kentucky won 27-24.
  • Delaware is a 9.5-point favorite over Middle Tennessee in Conference USA action on Wednesday
  • The Blue Raiders rank 116th in points per game, and 128th in red zone scoring rate
  • See below for my Middle Tennessee vs Delaware prediction and best bet, along with the spread for Wednesday CFB

Conference USA gets the college football spotlight on Wednesday with two games starting with Middle Tennessee taking on Delaware. The Blue Hens (3-3, 1-2 CUSA) are sizeable home favorites over the Blue Raiders (1-5, 0-2 CUSA) per the latest college football odds, but I’m more interested in betting the total.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm ET from Delaware Stadium, in Newark, DE, with ESPN2 providing the broadcast coverage.

Here is my Middle Tennessee vs Delaware prediction for Wednesday CFB.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware Prediction

This game opened with a 52.5 point total and that number has already been bet up to 55. I would have bet the under at the opening line, but if sportsbooks are going to gift me 2.5 more points I’ll gladly take them.

I don’t see a scenario where these two offenses produce that much scoring. Neither program brings an explosive element to the table, while Middle Tennessee’s offense is legitimately one of the worst in the country. This is a team that ranks 116th in points per game and 128th in red zone scoring rate, despite facing an FCS opponent and three additional teams ranked outside the overall top-125.

Middle Tennessee Offensive Stats

StatTotal (Rank)
Points / Game17.6 (116th)
Red Zone Scoring %68.75 (128th)
Yards / Play5.1 (87th)

Just one of their games has eclipsed this total so far and that was against a Marshall squad that is top-20 in the country in scoring. No offence to Delaware, but the Blue Hens offense is nowhere near as talented as the Thundering Herd’s.

Sure, QB Nick Minicucci is having a fine season, but his 64% completion percentage and 7.6 yards per attempt aren’t earning him any Heisman Trophy votes. He’s led Delaware to a 27.6 points per game average, but his Blue Hens rank outside the top-75 in points per play and red zone scoring rate.

It’s not like there’s been a bunch of CFP odds contenders in the Blue Hens path either. Delaware hasn’t played a top-50 team all season, and has scored 25 points or less in two of three conference games.

The matchup is certainly appetizing, as the Blue Raiders defense is also tough to watch. They rank 85th in scoring defense and 114th in yards per play. I predict the Blue Hens will have offensive success, but not nearly enough to push this number over the total on their own.

Middle Tennessee vs Delaware Best Bet

Delaware is going to have shoulder the offensive burden because I don’t expect much push back from Middle Tennessee. They enter play averaging just 5.1 yards per play and 3.4 yards per rush. Their offensive line struggles in pass protection, ranking 93rd in opponent sack rate, while Nicholas Vattiato is completing only 61% of his passes and ranks 130th in QBR.

The Blue Hens are going to control time of the possession and finally get their struggling run game going. They’ll turn the Blue Raiders into a one-dimensional offense once they establish the lead, and Vattiato and Co. simply don’t have the playmakers to answer.

My Middle Tennessee vs Delaware best bet is under 55 points, but I wouldn’t fault anyone for taking the Blue Hens on the spread as well. The Blue Raiders have covered only twice all season, with three of their five losses coming by 14+ points.

The best place to bet the under is over at Bet365, as their total is half a point higher than the rest of the market. DraftKings currently has the best odds on Delaware to cover the 9.5-point spread at -105, while multiple books are offering +280 on Middle Tennessee to pull off the upset.

Per the college football public betting trends, under 55 is drawing a lot of betting interest. As of Tuesday afternoon, 63% of the over/under tickets and 69% of the handle are expecting this game to fall short of the total.
