Missouri (6-3; 4-4-1 ATS) hosts Mississippi State (5-5, 8-2 ATS) in Columbia for the first time since 2015 in a 7:45 p.m. kickoff tonight on the SEC Network.

Missouri vs Mississippi State Prediction

Missouri’s season took a big hit two weeks ago when star quarterback Beau Pribula got injured and was lost for the season. The Tigers turned to true freshman Matt Zollers last week against A&M, and he, understandably, struggled, completing just seven passes.

But Mississippi State has some QB questions, too. Starter Blake Shipen got hurt in the third quarter of last week’s loss to Georgia. He didn’t practice early in the week, but was listed as probable on Thursday. The latest reports are that he’s going to play.

Shapen has thrown for 2,234 yards and 15 scores. His back-up, Kamario Taylor, is another freshman who was a high school star in Mississippi. He’s more of a runner.

Keep your eye on the spread on this one before kickoff and see if it changes if Shapen warms up.

I’m going with Mississippi State to cover. The Bulldogs have covered 10 of their last 11 November road games. I believe Shapen will play, and a win by Mississippi State will make them bowl eligible, which would be a big deal for this program. They haven’t been in a bowl since 2022.

I also love the under. Zollers didn’t look like he could move the Tigers’ offense, so I expect Mizzou to lean even more on Ahmad Hardy, who leads the SEC with 1,046 yards and 12 scores. I just can’t see Missouri scoring that many points, even though State’s defense isn’t great.

Mississippi State has a thunder and lightning combo at running back with Fluff Bothwell and Davon Booth, each with over 500 yards this season. State is also +4 in turnover margin, and senior safety Brylan Lanier is tied for the SEC lead with three picks.

Mississippi State has been one of the best bets against the spread this season, with an 8-2 record. I know I have used them in my upset picks this season with great success. They’ve had close losses to Florida, Texas and Tennessee. The last three Bulldog games have all hit the over. Nine of State’s last 10 November games against unranked teams have hit the over.
