The newly-crowned No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes face a classic trap game against Grambling State on Saturday. Fresh off their defensive masterpiece against Texas, the Buckeyes welcome an FCS opponent to Columbus as record-setting favorites.
Online sportsbooks have installed Ohio State as 55.5-point favorites, the largest spread in program history. That number tells you everything about this matchup in the college football odds.

Ohio State vs Grambling State Odds
The Buckeyes opened as 55.5-point favorites, and the number hasn’t moved. The total sits at 62.5, suggesting oddsmakers expect Ohio State to do most of the scoring themselves.
No moneyline is available for this game due to the lopsided nature. Per the college football public betting trends, most bettors are staying away from this massive spread entirely.

Ohio State vs Grambling State Prediction
- Under 62.5 (-110)
The Buckeyes defense just held the No. 1 team to seven points, the fewest by a top-ranked squad in a regular-season game since 2000. They forced three three-and-outs and completely dominated Texas.
Now they face a Grambling State team that’s lost 23 of its 24 games against FBS opponents by double digits since 2000. The Tigers won’t score much against this elite defense.
Grambling’s defense actually looked solid against NAIA opponent Langston last week. They held them to just 97 total yards and minus-32 rushing yards. Of course, Ohio State presents a completely different challenge.
Julian Sayin managed the game well against Texas, throwing for 126 yards and a touchdown in his debut. He’s now 5-1 when quarterbacks make their first career start under Ryan Day. This week gives him a chance to build confidence against an overmatched opponent.
The problem with covering 55.5 points is that Ohio State will likely pull their starters by halftime. Once the backups enter, expect a conservative ground game focused on running clock.
Ohio State has won its four previous FCS games by an average of 44.75 points. That’s impressive, but still short of this massive number. The 2013 win over Florida A&M (76-0) remains their largest margin against an FCS opponent.

The first half spread makes more sense than the full game. Ohio State’s starters should build a commanding lead before heading to the bench. The Buckeyes will want to make a statement early before coasting.
Jeremiah Smith had just 43 yards against Texas, one of only four career games under 50 yards. He averages nearly 80 yards per game and should feast against an FCS secondary. Look for Sayin to connect with his star receiver early and often.
Key Matchup Stats
The Tigers’ head coach Mickey Joseph knows what’s coming. He acknowledged this week that there’s “not balance in the scholarship” and everyone “knows why we’re playing the game.” That $1 million paycheck helps fund Grambling’s athletic department.
C’zavian Teasett posted a 190.2 passer rating against Langston, completing 20 of 25 passes in under 2.0 seconds per dropback. He’ll need to get the ball out even quicker against Ohio State’s pass rush.
