Oklahoma and Texas renew festivities in the 2025 Red River Rivalry this Saturday, October 11th. Texas plays host, with the game kicking off from the Cotton Bowl on ABC at 3:30pm ET. The Longhorns are ahead in the all-time series 64-51-5, but Oklahoma has won five of the last seven meetings.
Check out my Oklahoma vs Texas prediction, along with player prop picks and the closing line.
Oklahoma vs Texas Prediction
The health of Oklahoma starting quarterback John Mateer looms large in this matchup. Mateer is recovering from hand surgery and has been listed as probable for Saturday’s Red River Rivalry. The largest indication that he will play is the fact that sportsbooks have listed his player props for this afternoon’s showdown.
Brent Venables’ Sooners have flown out of the gate to a 5-0 mark on the season, with headlining victories over both Michigan and Auburn.
Meanwhile, Texas were the No.1 team in college football entering the season, but a loss in today’s showdown could doom their College Football Playoff hopes. Arch Manning hasn’t lived up to the hype with 17.9% of his throws charted as off target, the fifth highest mark in the FBS.
Oklahoma’s defense is the top-ranked unit in the country. They’re first in EPA per play against the pass, net EPA, and opponent yards per play. The Sooners are second overall in both points and yards allowed per game, and have racked up the second-most sacks in the country.
Texas lost four starters from their offensive line a year ago, and that’s shone bright against top-tier competition, with the Longhorns posting a 60 PFF grade against Ohio State and Florida. Expect Manning to be under pressure for most of the afternoon, and the Sooners defense to power them to victory. Boomer Sooner!
- Pick: Oklahoma ML (+100)
Oklahoma vs Texas Prop Picks
If he’s taking the field today, you can bet Texas will be seeing a ton of John Mateer in the designed quarterback run game. Mateer has crossed this line in 10 of his last 13 games dating back to last season, and has seen double-digit rushing attempts in three of four games this season.
Texas receiver Ryan Wingo has failed to surpass 52.5 receiving yards in 16 of his last 18 games. He broke out in garbage time against Florida last week, as the Gators played off coverage and allowed completions in the fourth quarter. However, Oklahoma are ranked in the top-10 in both pass-rush and coverage grade according to PFF, so he’ll find very little room to work against the Sooners.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma tight end Jaren Kanak has become a consistent force in the Sooners passing attack exceeding 3.5 reception in four his five games this season. The converted linebacker has hauled in 87% of targets this season, while posting an 83 overall receiving grade. Kanak will have plenty of opportunity against the Longhorns as he runs a route on 85% of snaps and will be Mateer’s safetly blanket in the passing game.
Oklahoma vs Texas Closing Line
Texas are 1.5-point favorites in the closing Week 7 college football odds. The Oklahoma vs Texas total is set at 44.5 with both the over and under at an even -110.
The public likes the Sooners in this one as 74% of against the spread bets and 55% of moneyline plays are on Oklahoma in the college football public betting splits.
