Western Michigan (6-4; 7-3 ATS) can close in on a spot in the MAC title game with a win Tuesday at Northern Illinois (3-7; 3-7 ATS). The Broncos are 5-1 in the MAC, ahead of five other teams that are 4-2. The top two teams in the MAC make the conference title game in Detroit. The MAC did away with divisions in their conference—please bring them back.
I have finalized my Western Michigan vs NIU prediction and provided my picks for Tuesday CFB. Additionally, I have the best odds and information on how to watch this crucial MAC battle.

My prediction for Western Michigan vs NIU is a Broncos cover on the road. I’m taking the Broncos even though Huskie Stadium has been a nightmare for them for the last 15 years. They’ve only won at NIU once since 2009.
However, this year, Western Michigan is the better team. Broncos QB Broc Lowry is sixth in the MAC in rushing yards at 683, and the defense ranks No. 2 in the conference in run defense, pass defense, and scoring defense. Defensive end Nadame Tucker is tied for first in tackles for loss in FBS with 16 and has 10.5 sacks. He’s a 25-year-old transfer from Teaneck, New Jersey.
Western Michigan Broncos Analysis
The Broncos have been one of the more consistent teams in the MAC this season. Their defense has been particularly stout, ranking second in the conference in multiple categories. Tucker has been a force off the edge, and Lowry’s dual-threat ability keeps defenses honest. Western Michigan has everything to play for with MAC title game implications on the line.
Northern Illinois Huskies Analysis
NIU has been good the last two years, but things have fallen off this season. It’s been the offense and the quarterback play. Josh Holt was the starter, but he was ineffective and gave way to Jalen Macon last week against UMass. Macon, a transfer from UA-Pine Bluff, may have been the slated starter, but he hurt his throwing hand in camp.
NIU is third to last in the nation in passing at just 108.1 yards per game. Only Rice and Army are worse. NIU has a good running game with Telly Johnson Jr. The Huskies have won two of their last three games, but it was over Ball State (bad) and UMass (maybe the worst team in the country).
Western Michigan has too much on the line here to slip up. I’m hesitant on the total, but I’ll take the under because of the Huskies’ bad offense.
Western Michigan vs NIU Odds
Odds as of Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 18) from BetMGM. Get going with our exclusive BetMGM bonus code.
The Broncos are coming off a hard-fought win over Ohio, one that I called correctly last week. The Western Michigan vs NIU odds haven’t wobbled much. It’s a 6.5-point spread at BetMGM and a few other places, but you can get 5.5 at FanDuel.
The total looks like a misprint at 38.5. That’s low, but NIU has one of the worst offenses in the nation. Both teams are 4-6 over/under this season. I found the best moneyline value for Western Michigan is -220 at FanDuel. You can get NIU +190 at BetMGM and DraftKings.
Western Michigan is 5-0 as favorites this season straight up, while NIU is 2-2 at Huskie Stadium.
How to Watch Western Michigan vs NIU
Our nightmare of YouTubeTV not carrying ESPN networks is finally over. I can finally cancel my Sling subscription after a month.
If you’re wondering how to watch Tuesday CFB, Western Michigan and NIU are slated for a 7:00 PM ET kickoff on ESPN2.
The other Tuesday MACtion game between Bowling Green and Akron is on ESPNU. If you’re a real college football lunatic, Ohio vs. UMass is on CBS Sports Network. Ohio is a 32.5-point favorite in that one.
