  • Stephen Curry has averaged most three pointers per game 6 of last 7 seasons
  • Two-time MVP led NBA with 5.1 three-pointers per game in 2018-19
  • Can Houston’s James Harden challenge for most three pointers per game at +325?

Since the 2012-13 season, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been the NBA’s three-point king.

In all but one season during that stretch, Curry has led the league in three-pointers per game. So it comes as no big surprise that the two-time MVP is the favorite to lead the NBA in that stat category once again.

The latest prop wager for most three-pointers per game during the 2019-20 NBA season lists Curry as the -265 odds-on favorite.

Will Curry be the runaway favorite to make the most three-pointers per game or will Houston’s James Harden be in contention?

Odds to Lead NBA in 3-Pointers Per Game

Player Team Odds
Stephen Curry Golden State Warriors -265
James Harden Houston Rockets +325
Paul George Los Angeles Clippers +1400
Buddy Hield Sacramento Kings +1400
Damian Lillard Portland Trail Blazers +1800
Kyle Lowry Toronto Raptors +2500
Kemba Walker Boston Celtics +2500
Eric Gordon Houston Rockets +2500
Kyrie Irving Brooklyn Nets +4000
Terrance Ross Orlando Magic +4000

*Odds taken on 15/10/19

One half of the Splash Brothers in Golden State, Curry is always a threat at the three-point line. The three-time NBA champion led the league with an average of 5.1 a year ago. Curry averaged 11.7 attempts per game for a three-point percentage of 43.7%. In total, he made 354 three-pointers in 2018-19.

Since breaking into the league in 2009-10, Curry has always averaged over 40% from three-point range and that won’t likely change heading into the new season.

The real question is which player is worth betting on to beat Curry in a stat he’s owned for the last decade?

Help Coming Harden’s Way

James Harden wasn’t far off from Curry’s three-point average last season, as ‘The Beard’ finished with 4.8 per game on 13.2 attempts for a three-point percentage of 36.8%.

Harden’s been a one-man offensive machine in Houston, but the addition of Russell Westbrook in the offseason should open up more looks and more three-point attempts.

Harden, who comes in at +325, was the three-point per game leader in 2017-18 — the same season he won the scoring title with 30.4 PPG.

Harden averaged 3.7 three-pointers per game on 10 attempts for a percentage of 36.7. While he didn’t have the best percentage, his three-pointers per game led the NBA.

No team in the league made more three-pointers per game last season than the Rockets with 16.1, but the Warriors were third overall at 13.3.

Lillard Third In Three-Point Battle

Much like it’s been over the last few years, the three-pointers per game average will come down to Curry and Harden.

But Damian Lillard should be considered in the mix early in the season. At +1800, Lillard is considered to be a long shot to average the most three-pointers per game, but the Trail Blazers guard finished ninth in NBA scoring last season with 25.8 PPG.

Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers is another early candidate at +1400 after he finished third in three-pointers made at 3.8 per game lasts season.

With Golden State losing Kevin Durant, the Warriors will depend on Curry even more to make up a lot of those points at the three-point line.

While Harden will make a push and likely won’t finish far off, it’ll be Curry that leads the league in three-pointers once again.

Pick: Stephen Curry (-265)
