NBA preseason continues on Friday, October 7th. It’s a busy slate, too, with seven contests scheduled. Arguably the most intriguing matchup of the lot is the Miami Heat facing Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum. Elsewhere, the Denver Nuggets visit the Chicago Bulls in the Windy City. The Boston Celtics, New Orleans Pelicans, and New York Knicks, among others, are also in action.

The Celtics are the biggest favorites of the night, laying nine points on the road at the Hornets. The smallest spread is in Denver vs Chicago where the Bulls are slight one-point home chalk.

Pick #1: Heat vs Grizzlies

On the tail-end of a back-to-back, the Heat clash with the Grizzlies. Miami trampled Brooklyn on Thursday by a score of 109-80, with everyone but Jimmy Butler doing the damage. Eight different players finished in double-figures, led by Bam Adebayo’s 17 points. The ball movement was tremendous for Erik Spoelstra’s squad, dishing out 31 assists and finding lots of open lanes to the cup, scoring 56 of their points in the paint. It’s rather surprising that Miami is such a heavy underdog here, but that’s due to Butler, Bam, and Tyler Herro, among a few others, all resting on Friday.

The Grizzlies are off to a 2-0 start in preseason beating both the Bucks and Magic. Memphis did what they do best against Orlando and that’s kill teams in transition with their insane athleticism, outscoring them 30-15 in fastbreak points. Ja Morant had 22 points, four rebounds, and seven assists, while Santi Aldama also poured in 21. All the main culprits are expected to play Friday.

With Miami keeping several key guys out, I certainly see the value in the Grizzlies on the spread in the NBA Preseason picks. They should cook.

Pick: Grizzlies -7.5 (-110)

Pick #2: Nuggets vs Bulls

Denver and Chicago both come into this contest looking for their first preseason wins. The Nuggets lost 112-101 to the OKC Thunder on Monday in the return of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. The two combined for 22 points, while reigning MVP Nikola Jokic had just two points, five boards, and three dimes in 15 minutes. The Serbian is questionable for Friday’s game with a wrist sprain, which means there’s a good chance he doesn’t play.

The Bulls also dropped their opener to the Pelicans by four points. While it was a sloppy performance from each team as they committed a ton of mistakes, Chi-Town turned the ball over 26 times which resulted in a whole 36 points for New Orleans. On a more positive note, there were lots of contributions from the entire rotation, with six players posting double figures in points. DeMar DeRozan was the leading catalyst with 21.

More likely than not, Jokic doesn’t suit up because after all, this is the preseason. I’ll bank on it and take Chicago to win this one against a Nuggets group that is a whole different beast without their big man.

Pick: Bulls ML (-115)
