You Can Bet Whether Spike Lee Will Attend a Knicks Home Game Again This Season

Just when you think the New York Knicks have hit rock bottom, they find themselves in yet another embarrassing situation. This time, they got into a spat with long-time superfan Spike Lee, who was told he can’t use the same entry to the stadium that he’s used for 28 years.

Lee plans to boycott attending future Knicks’ game but will he stick to it or will we see him at Madison Square Garden at least once more this season? Let’s take a closer look at the odds:

So What Actually Happened?

It’s hard to gauge what the full story is between Lee and the Knicks because we have a bit of a he said-she said.

From Lee’s perspective, he says he used the same entrance he’s been using for 28 years, they scanned his ticket, and then asked him to leave through that same entrance, which is on 33^rd street, and re-enter through the VIP entrance on 31^st street.

As for the Knicks, they responded by saying that they’ve repeatedly told him not to use the employee entrance and that he did anyway. They say they’ve asked him to use the VIP entrance, which is used by all other celebrities who come to the games, and he continued to use the employee entrance.

The issue ballooned into a national story when Lee went on ESPN’s First Take to share his story. It’s important that he did because the Knicks have previously kicked out a fan for criticizing owner James Dolan and also booted and banned legendary Knick Charles Oakley.

Will the Boycott Stick?

Lee has since said that he plans to boycott the rest of the home games this season. The Knicks are currently 19-43 entering Friday’s action and have a total of nine home games left. While many of them look like terrible matchups, there are still showdowns with the Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors on tap.

The Knicks are a terrible team right now and there’s little excitement surrounding the franchise. They don’t even have a young core or a young star who is really providing much optimism for the future, so there isn’t much drawing Lee back. RJ Barrett averaged just 12.6 points per game in February.

Although we don’t have a definitive answer as to who is in the wrong here, on the surface, it looks like Lee is in the wrong. The Knicks have already said he’s welcome back anytime as long as he uses the proper entrance. However, the Knicks have engaged in all sorts of shady practices, so who knows if their account is accurate.

However, at +155, I wouldn’t mind betting the ‘Yes’ here because it looks like both sides have dug in. The Knicks have been an abhorrent franchise over the years and Lee might feel like making a point over the last nine contests.
