  • The Blues are heavy -250 moneyline favorites over the Blackhawks on Wednesday, October 15th
  • St. Louis has won five in a row and seven of eight versus Chicago

The puck drops on Wednesday Night Hockey, and it features a pair of Central Division rivals, with the 2-1-0 Blues squaring off against the 1-2-1 Blackhawks. Last season, Chicago was second-worst in the entire NHL, while St. Louis was the final Wild Card team in the West.

The Blues come in having won their last two road outings against the Flames and Canucks after being shut out in their season opener at home to the Wild. The Hawks finally got in the win column against Utah after dropping the first three contests.

Action is set to get underway at 9:30 pm ET from Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, with TNT and HBO Max with the coverage in the United States.

Blackhawks vs Blues Prediction

The Blackhawks are still a young team finding their way through a full-scale rebuild, so they’re the longest of long shots in the Stanley Cup Odds at +50000, while the Blues are +5000, as they’re not expected to compete for Lord Stanley.

In two of three outings, the Blues and their adversaries have gone over the 5.5 goal total this year, while only once in four contests have the Blackhawks combined for six over more snipes. In seven of the last nine battles between these two rivals, at least six goals have been scored, with St. Louis taking seven of the last eight meetings.

The Blues have dispatched the Flames and Canucks, two non-playoff teams a year ago, just like they’ll be attempting to do the same with Chicago. St. Louis has put up four and five markers in those games, and though it’s hard to glean too much insight this early in the campaign, they should have no problem scoring Wednesday.

Despite the Hawks being long removed from their glory days from over a decade ago, they’ve proven to be pesky thus far. They lost by just one to defending Cup champion Florida, fell in OT to Boston, and were clipped by one to Montreal, who made the playoffs a year ago.

Their last game resulted in their first win of the season, 3-1 versus Utah. I’m not in favor of picking St. Louis on the puckline, given Chicago’s propensity to keep it close, but I do love the over 5.5 goal total, since it’s happened in seven of the last nine meetings between these foes.

Blackhawks vs Blues Prop Bet

For a prop bet in this affair, I’m going with Robert Thomas, who led the Blues with 81 points last season. He’s more of an assist guy (21 goals, 60 assists), but he’s scored once in the first three games this year.

What intrigues with a goal from him is the fact that he’s lit the lamp in four of his last five duels against Chicago. He’s at +230 to tickle the twine, which is longer odds than four players on DraftKings, so there’s a bit more value with him.
