The puck drops on Thursday night in Los Angeles, featuring an interconference battle between the Red Wings and Kings. This year, Detroit has been a revelation at 7-3-0 (7-3 ATS), and they’re up against LA, who is 5-3-3 (6-5 ATS).

After a scratchy start to the campaign, which saw them with just one victory in six contests, the Kings have righted the ship, taking four of five, while the Wings have won two after losing a pair.

Action is set to get underway at 10:30 pm ET from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, with ESPN+ providing the coverage in the United States.

Neither of these teams are among the contenders in the Stanley Cup Odds, with LA having a better chance in the eyes of oddsmakers at +3000, while the Red Wings are +7500.

In the last five Detroit duels, there have been at least six goals combined scored. For LA, it’s happened in six of eleven affairs on the season, with six or more netted in two of their last three. In all but one instance in the previous seven meetings between these two squads, they’ve tickled the twine six or more times, so I’m bullish on it happening again.

DET vs LA Season Stats/Ranks

It should be a fairly evenly matched battle between Detroit and LA, as they have similar statistics early in the year. They’re both in the back half in goals allowed, which should hopefully lean towards a high-paced, back-and-forth battle with plenty of red lights going off.

Wings captain Dylan Larkin has been on a tear thus far, racking up 16 points (no other teammate has more than ten), which is good for fourth most points in the NHL. Adrian Kempe has 14 points for the Kings, their lone player with double digits.

Cam Talbot is expected to be between the pipes for Detroit – he was pasted for seven markers against him in his latest start vs the Islanders. The Kings are expected to counter with Darcy Kuemper, who has allowed three or more goals in five of seven outings to begin the 2025-26 season.

Red Wings vs Kings Prop Pick

For a prop bet in this affair, I’m going with Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat to record three or more shots. That’s something he’s been able to achieve in all but one of his ten outings on the campaign, and at a -132 price tag, that’s pretty reasonable.

If you want to parlay over 5.5 goals being scored with DeBrincat putting three or more pucks on net, that’s a tidy total of +175.

Los Angeles is currently a strong -142 moneyline favorite and is laying 1.5 goals on the puck line at +180 odds. Detroit comes back as a +120 underdog, while the total currently sits at 5.5 over at DraftKings.
