Friday's practice got rained out but could William Byron win Sunday's Brickyard 400 after a strong Saturday qualifying effort? At SBD, we take a look and deal out a longshot or two.
NASCAR Cup Series driver William Byron (24) sits in his garage Friday, July 25, 2025, ahead of practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in preparation for the Brickyard 400. Cup practice was cancelled due weather in the area.
  • NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 takes place in Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon
  • Chase Briscoe won the pole, with Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick, and Ty Gibbs not too far behind
  • Below, see my NASCAR Brickyard 400 odds, predictions, and longshots for Indianapolis.

The famed Indianapolis track, which hosts the Indianapolis 500, is back again for NASCAR fans at the Brickyard 400. This race should last 3 to 3.5 hours, and the stage setup is 50-50-60. Chase Briscoe won the pole with Bubba Wallace also on the front row.

Last year, the 2.5-mile oval saw an exciting finish with Kyle Larson snagging the checkered flag in overtime. Who will take the 2025 edition on Sunday? Surely, five Toyotas will not top the standings like they did in qualifying, right? The table below lays out the Brickyard 400 odds (winner, top three, and top five) for the top-ten favorites. Under the table, I have set out my predictions and best bets for the Brickyard 400, followed by my favorite longshot picks in Indianapolis.

Kyle Larson leads the field in the NASCAR Cup Series odds, as well. William Byron and Christopher Bell are among the racers hanging around in the championship numbers.

NASCAR Brickyard 400 Predictions

The weather may or may not be an issue on Sunday. The forecast calls for some warm temperatures around 86 degrees and a ton of humidity. With a 40-50% chance of scattered thunderstorms during race time, delays are at least possible.

Like I mentioned above, qualifying was quite contentious but in the end, the top five slots were all occupied by Toyota cars led by Chase Briscoe. Hey, if one is wondering where Kyle Larson qualified, he ended up 13th. William Byron was the highest qualifying Chevy in 6th. Chris Buescher was the highest qualifying Ford in 7th.

Again, if Denny Hamlin had not wrecked, he probably takes the pole or comes really close. How fast is his backup car? Normally, Hamlin is hard to count out in this scenario but the +750 number is still too short. Briscoe is also tempting again but can he stay in the lead after 160 or more laps? Even his number shortened to +850 after qualifying.

Now, Sunday afternoon could feature several changes and wrinkles. For one, there is the weather. Also, track conditions will be changeable with the humidity and mixed skies. It is a real crapshoot to win this race especially if it winds up going into overtime. Many talk of how Kyle Larson jumped the start. I think they may still be talking about that one. If there is another Chevy upset of sorts, it might be a mild one from William Byron. Byron was challenging up near the front last year when disaster struck near the middle of Stage 2. He has been as fast in qualifying and practice as Kyle Larson.

Longshot Picks for Brickyard 400

Besides, the finale for the In-Season Tournament, there are some different longshot racers to consider for Sunday. Metrics are hard to judge because this is only the second time the Next-Gen car has raced at the Brickyard. For three years, there was the Verizon 200 held on the road course. Anyway, going past +2000 in the odds crank out the following names.

DriverODDS
Kyle Busch+2200
Alex Bowman+2500
Carson Hocevar+2800
Erik Jones+4500
Ryan Preece+6000

Unfortunately, we got a little unlucky last week as Denny Hamlin conserved a few extra drops of fuel to hold off Chase Briscoe. The Top 3 and Top 5 payouts were nice enough, however. Among the longer shots here, Hocevar and Jones qualified inside the Top 10 and have tested well here in the past. For us, Hocevar’s car is fast and has been all year. He simply has to avoid contact to have a chance.

At +2800, he is a good longshot choice to shock the field and get in the playoff with a win. Kyle Busch is a sentimental choice here at +2200. Busch is the last active repeat winner (2015 and 2016).
