Opening 2022 ACC Championship Game Odds – Clemson 7-Point Favorites Against North Carolina

• The Clemson Tigers are current 7-point favorites over the North Carolina Tar Heels in the ACC Championship odds
• Clemson was upset Saturday by South Carolina, while UNC lost its second straight to close out the regular season
• We look at the opening odds and predict line movement heading up to the December 3 kickoff

The ACC Championship matchup had been determined a few weeks back, so there were already odds flying around.

And while the 8th-ranked Clemson Tigers (10-2, 8-0 ACC) are still the betting favorite over the 17th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (9-3, 6-2 ACC), the Week 13 happenings have those original opening lines shift.

Clemson’s already thin College Football Playoff hopes are officially in the tank, after watching their 40-game home win streak come to a halt at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Meanwhile, after the Tar Heels locked up their ACC title game berth, they’ve subsequently dropped two conference stunners to end the year.

Let’s have a look at the lines following Saturday’s outcomes.

With no games left to play and the regular season dust settled, North Carolina enters this one as 7-point underdogs with a total of 62.5.

This matchup takes place December 3, with kickoff slated for 8pm ET from Bank of America Stadium, a neutral site and home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers. You can watch the game live on ABC.

Clemson Loss Shakes Line

After beating Louisville 31-16 in Week 11, the Tigers claimed the final berth in the conference title game. The week prior, the Tar Heels snuck by Wake Forest 36-34 to punch their ticket.

Very early lines saw the Tigers as high as 10-point favorites at some books, which didn’t look bad after they whipped Miami 40-10 in their conference schedule finale,  finishing the season 8-0 in ACC action.

Saturday saw the Gamecocks eke out a 31-30 win, in a game that Clemson was favored by a hefty 14.5 points. The in-state rivalry game was the first win for South Carolina after dropping seven straight, and they needed to overcome a 14-0 start to do it.

Following the loss, the line dropped from double digits, with Clemson now favored at -7. It’s the second loss in the last four games for the Tigers. The moneyline also saw a significant drop: as late as 1:53pm ET on FanDuel, Clemson was a -385 pick, but faded to -255.

For UNC, they odds shortened from +300 to its current +205 figure.

Tar Heels Stagger Into ACC Championship

South Carolina showed that a good defense can puncture what had been a very impressive Clemson defense. The Tigers entered Saturday holding opponents to 20 points per contest (24th), 214.5 yards passing (51st) and 104.2 yards rushing (12th).

It was just the second time all year they’d allowed a team to score 30+ points in a game.

North Carolina offers a dynamo at quarterback that can light up a defense, one that many would argue is better than Spencer Rattler, who guided SC to the win.

Drake Maye finished the year with 3,847 passing yards, which was second in the nation, while leading all passers with 35 TD tosses against just five interceptions.

But before the line shortened any close than a touchdown, consider UNC boasts the ACC’s worst defense, ranking last in points allowed, pass yards allowed and total yards allowed.

They suffered a 30-27 2OT loss to the NC State Wolfpack Saturday, a week after losing 21-17 to Georgia Tech.

Clemson vs UNC Line Prediction

Perhaps oddsmakers see Clemson regaining their defensive form, as the total for this one on FanDuel opened two weeks ago at 65.5. It shaved a couple of points to 63.5, before settling at one point less.

It feels as though after much movement over the last few weeks, the betting numbers should settle in and around this area as we near kickoff, with perhaps a half-point movement up or down on the line and on the total.
