  • The Toronto Raptors are 3-point road ‘dogs when they visit the New York Knicks Monday afternoon
  • New York has won seven of their last eight games
  • Read below for the Raptors vs Knicks odds and predictions

If the Toronto Raptors (19-24, 5-13 away) want to make a move in the East, they’re going to have to make some hay on the road, where they play 10 of their next 12.

It’s not going to be an easy start, as they visit the New York Knicks (25-19, 11-11 home), who are looking for their fourth straight win and eighth in their last nine.

New York is coming off a  win over the Pistons Sunday night, completing a perfect mini 2-game road trip. They’ll be playing on consecutive nights for the seventh time this season.

Toronto had their 6-game homestand end with an L to the Atlanta Hawks, snapping a three-game win streak.

It all gets underway Monday (Jan 16) at 3pm ET from Madison Square Garden, in a game you can watch on NBA League Pass.

The NBA odds have the Knicks as 3-point favorites, and -146 on the moneyline. Sitting in sixth, New York is 11-11 at home, tied for the fewest home wins of any team currently in the East playoff picture.

The Dinos are in 11th in the East, and they have the worst road record of any team in the conference at 5-13.

Toronto Betting Analysis

The Raptors finished 3-3 on their homestand, ending in a deflating 114-103 thumping against Atlanta, a game they trailed wire-to-wire.

Scottie Barnes led the way with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while Pascal Siakam added 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. It was a rough one for Fred VanVleet, who shot 1-for-9 from the field for three points. He added six boards and four dimes. VanVleet is also dealing with a back injury, leaving his status in doubt for Monday.

Toronto allowed the Hawks to shoot 51.2% from the field and 40.7% from distance. Although Toronto is eighth in points allowed (111.5), they are tied for 28th in field goal defense, with teams firing at a 48.9% clip.

They are also 26th in 3-point shooting D, with teams drilling moneyballs at a 36.7% rate.

The Raptors make up for those inefficiencies by forcing turnovers at the highest rate in the league, a 17.1 per game average. It’s no surprise they also lead the NBA in points off turnovers, at 21.4 points per game.

New York Betting Analysis

It’s been quite a run for the Knicks since Dec 31, going 7-1 to move above the play-in fray. The latest was a 117-104 thumping in Detroit.

Julius Randle was unstoppable in this one, dropping 42 points to go with 15 rebounds and four assists, while also drilling 4-for-7 from downtown.

Randle has been a wrecking ball of late: he’s scored 25 points or more in 11 of the last 15, including six for 30+, while grabbing double-digit rebounds in 10 straight, with six of those games producing 15+ boards.

Jalen Brunson had 27 points, five boards and four dimes, while Immanuel Quickley popped 17 off the bench, adding three rebounds and three assists.

The Knicks are relentless on the glass, leading the NBA in offensive rebounding (13.2), which leads to a league-best 17.5 second-chance points per game.

They’re a spot above the Raptors in scoring D, but their real work is inside, where they allow the 2nd-fewest paint points (44.7).

Raptors vs Knicks Betting Prediction

This is the third of four meetings between these two, with each team winning on the road. Pascal Siakam set MSG on fire in a Raptors 113-106 win on Dec 21, pouring in a career-best 52 points, with nine rebounds and seven assists.

New York returned the favor on Toronto’s most recent homestand, with a 112-108 win. Randle had 32 points and 11 boards to lead the Knicks.

Toronto has covered just once in their last six games against teams with winning records. They are also 4-9 ATS in their last 13 on the road.

New York is a solid 10-6 ATS as the home betting favorite, and have stood up against the rigors of back-to-back games, going 3-2-1 ATS in six contests.

Look for them to carry their recent success onto a Raptors’ unit that’s struggled away from Scotiabank Arena.

Pick:

  • Knicks -3 (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units
  • NBA Betting Record: 23-19 ATS, 1-1 ML, 4-4 o/u, 0-2 parlays; +0.82 units
