  • The Philadelphia Phillies are -146 home favorites vs the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night
  • Baltimore has won eight of 11 coming out of the all-star break
  • Don’t miss the latest Orioles vs Phillies picks, props to target, and starting pitchers below

A second-half surge has vaulted the Baltimore Orioles (62-38, 32-18) to the top of the American League.

Their latest test will be against one of baseball’s best pitchers, as they continue their road set against the Philadelphia Phillies (53-47), who are just trying to stay in the NL playoff picture.

B-More opened the series with a 3-2 win Monday, giving them victories in eight of their last 11 to start the second half of the year, sending the Phils to their fifth loss in six games.

Action gets underway Tuesday (July 25) at 6:40pm ET from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. You can watch the game live on MLB Network.

Orioles vs Phillies Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Baltimore Orioles +124 +1.5 (-166) O 9.5 (-104)
Philadelphia Phillies -146 -1.5 (+138) U 9.5 (-118)

Despite the O’s trailing only the Atlanta Braves for the best mark in the bigs, the MLB odds have the Phillies as -146 home favorites, an implied win probability of 59.35%. The total is set at 9.5 runs.

At 32-18, Baltimore is in a 3-way tie for most road wins in the league. Philadelphia is a respectable 26-20 at home this season.

Probable Pitchers

Veteran Kyle Gibson gets the call for Baltimore, and a win will give him back-to-back double-digit win seasons, something he hasn’t done since 2017-18 when he was a member of the Twins. Of course, last year, he pitched to 10 wins as a member of the Phillies.

The Orioles have won three straight starts with Gibson on the bump, with the righty earning a decision in one.

In his most recent outing, he went six innings, scattering seven hits and three earned runs, walking two and striking out eight, as the Orioles eventually ousted the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in 10 innings.

The only Phillie that’s seen plenty of Gibson is LF Nick Castellanos. He’s hitting .233 in 43 career at-bats, with a pair of home runs and five RBI.

Gibson vs Walker Stats

Kyle Gibson
VS
Taijuan Walker
9-6 Record 11-4
4.76 ERA 4.11
1.36 WHIP 1.26
.328 OBA .310
2.45 SO/W Ratio 2.19

Taijuan Walker is tasked with helping the Phillies get back to winning. Walker’s 7-game win streak came to a halt last time out in a 4-0 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Walker, tied for the major-league lead with 11 wins, was tagged for six hits over six innings, giving up four earned runs, while walking a pair and striking out six.

It’s the second time in three starts he’s allowed four earned runs, something he hadn’t done in his previous nine outings, giving up one or less runs in six of them.

Aaron Hicks has the most career AB’s vs Walker, hitting .333 in 12 trips, and he’s the only one who’s taken the righty yard.

Baltimore vs Philadelphia Prop Picks

Despite his recent struggles, Walker’s strikeout total of 4.5 seems low, considering he’s had at least five strikeouts in seven of his last eight starts.

Third-year man Christopher Sanchez, yet to win this season in his eight starts with three losses, fanned eight Orioles in his seven sharp innings of work Monday. Hopefully Walker was watching intently, as his -118 odds to go over seem very doable.

Baltimore may be chasing the best record in baseball, but they’re a middle-of-the-pack hitting team at .250 (16th).

There wasn’t a lot of Philly offense in the opener, but Bryce Harper kept a hot bat, going 2-for-4. He’s now hit safely in 10 of his last 12 outings. Harper is getting +105 odds for two total bases Tuesday, so look for him to get involved Tuesday against Gibson, who he’s 0-for-2 against in his career.

Orioles vs Phillies Prediction

Few teams are as good as the Orioles going on the road as underdogs, as they boast a 20-14 record, the 3rd-best mark in the bigs. However, the Phillies are also 22-15 as a home favorite, just outside the top-10 in terms of success rate.

In this case, consider the best pitcher in this matchup. Walker is 5-1 this season at home with a sparkling 2.76 ERA. He’s holding teams to a paltry .176 average at Citizens Bank, which ranks third best in the bigs.

Normally, I’d ride with the top team in the conference, but let’s stay with the more desperate team and better pitcher.

Pick: Phillies ML (-146)
