  • FanDuel has partnered with SEPTA to fully restore service of the Broad Street Line for the Eagles home opener on Thursday
  • SEPTA will run regularly scheduled trains, plus express trips, before and after the game.
  • The FanDuel sponsorship covers free rides home for fans after halftime

FanDuel and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) have announced a partnership that will see restoration of full public transportation service for the Philadelphia Eagles home opener this Thursday.

The Eagles announced the partnership this afternoon, which will see FanDuel “provide resources” to help fully restore service on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line (B) for Thursday, Sept. 4.

SEPTA faced funding challenges leading up to the home opener, which likely would have resulted in far less trains following the conclusion of the Eagles game and resulted in a transit nightmare for fans trying to return home.

FanDuel Providing Free Rides For Fans

The partnership will allow SEPTA to turn regularly schedule subway trains, plus express train, before and after the game. Pregame, express trains will run every 10 minutes to supplement local services, while postgame 10 express and six local trains will shuttle fans home from NRG Station near Lincoln Financial Field.

Additionally, the FanDuel sponsorship covers free rides home for fans beginning after halftime and continuing through the end of service.

“We appreciate FanDuel and SEPTA for collaborating to help provide Eagles fans with convenient transportation to-and-from our home opener,” said Don Smolenski, President, Philadelphia Eagles. “Their generous support will assist fans in getting to Lincoln Financial Field so that we can all enjoy the Championship Moment together as we take on the division rival Dallas Cowboys.”

Philadelphia Transit Nightmare Avoided

Prior to the sponsorship, the Philadelphia Eagles warned fans not to attend Thursday night’s home opener if they did not have a ticket. SEPTA noted it would not be able to provide express trains during the night’s services, plus would only have three to four trains running after the game when the service usually requires 10 trains.

According to several reports, 16,000 fans typically use the Broad Street Line after an Eagles game to get home. Without the FanDuel sponsorship, SEPTA likely would have only been able to provide service to 4,000 fans after the home opener.

Crossing Broad, a Philadelphia sports blog, detailed SEPTA’s potential service woes leading up to the game earlier this week.

“SEPTA is grateful to FanDuel for stepping up with this sponsorship to restore Sports Express service for the Eagles home opener,” said Scott A. Sauer, General Manager, SEPTA. “This is a challenging time for SEPTA and our customers, but this partnership will ensure that Eagles fans have safe, clean, and reliable service to-and-from the game – and with the added bonus of free rides home.”
