Oilers vs. Panthers Meet in Stanley Cup Final for Second Straight Year

It’s been 32 years since a Canadian team has lifted the Stanley Cup, but the Oilers are hoping to end that drought.

A year ago, they lost by a one-goal margin in Game 7 against the Panthers to cap off a thrilling series. This year, both teams are rolling into the Cup Final yet again.

Edmonton dropped its first two games of the postseason against the Los Angeles Kings, but won 12 of its next 14 to return to the Final. That includes four straight to wipe out the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals, outscoring the Stars 19-5 in those games.

Florida needed seven games to dispatch the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but dominated the Carolina Hurricanes in five to put itself in a third straight Final and on the cusp of a second straight Cup.

The Oilers trip to the Finals is the eighth for a Canadian team since the Canadiens won the Cup in 1993. Another key difference from last year is that the Oilers will have home ice advantage, which is something the Panthers had during last year’s Final.
