Rutgers vs Indiana Odds, Lines, and Spread

Rutgers will try to stop a losing streak that is threatening to ruin its season when it visits Indiana at 12pm ET Sunday in a Big Ten game at Skojdt Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

Rutgers has lost five straight games and fallen to 7-6 overall and 3-6 in the Big Ten. That has put the Scarlet Knights’ hopes of reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1991 in jeopardy.

Rutgers has also been the losing side against the spread in each of its last four games and is the underdog in this one.

Indiana is trending the in the opposite direction, with two wins in its last three games straight up and four wins ATS in its past five games. The Hoosiers have lifted their record to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Sinking Scarlet Knights

Rutgers’ skid continued Thursday night when it lost at Penn State 75-67 as 2.5-point favorites.

The Scarlet Knights fell behind by 18 points with 10:38 left. They cut the lead to four with under three minutes remaining but got no closer.

Junior wing Ron Harper Jr. tried his best to rally Rutgers as he scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the second half. The son of the five-time NBA champion is averaging a team-leading 18.6 points a game along with 6.0 rebounds.

Harper has also protected the ball as well as anyone. His 3.8 turnover rate is seventh nationally.

Junior center Myles Johnson added 14 points and seven rebounds. He is averaging 8.6 rebounds and has a 13.6 offensive rebounding percentage and 25.8 defensive rebounding percentage.

The guard duo of senior Jacob Young (15.2) and junior Montez Mathis (12.2) is scoring a combined 27.4 points a game. Young also leads the team in assists with 4.2 a game.

Huge Hoosiers’ Win

Indiana is coming off its biggest win of coach Archie Miller’s four-year tenure as it stunned #4 Iowa 81-69 on the road Thursday night as a 10-point underdog.

The Hoosiers turned in a big defensive effort as it held Iowa to a season-low point total. The Hawkeyes entered the game averaging 92.2 points.

Iowa also made just five of 23 shots from 3-point range for 21.7% as it had been averaging 39.5% Iowa was 1-for-10 from long range in the second half and nine of 34 on overall field goal attempts.

Indiana ranks 13th in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency, according to KenPom.

As usual, sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis led Indiana with 23 points. He is averaging a team-high 20.6 points along with 8.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots. Jackson-Davis is also drawing 7.7 fouls per 40 minutes, the 10th-best mark in the country.

Junior guard Rob Phinisee added 18 points, senior guard Aljami Durham scored 14 points and sophomore guard Armaan Franklin had 11 points.

Franklin is second on the team in scoring with a 12.7 average and is making 1.5 steals a game. Durham has averages of 10.8 points and 3.2 assists.

Freshman guard Trey Galloway sat out with a back injury and is questionable for this game. He is averaging 4.9 points and 23.1 minutes.

Will History Repeat?

Recent history favors Rutgers as it has won three of its last four games against Indiana. Last season, the Scarlet Knights notched a 59-50 victory at home as 3.5-point favorites. Durham scored 10 points in a losing effort.

This is a potential trap game for Indiana coming off a big win. However, Rutgers is struggling mightily, and the Hoosiers’ strong defense should be able to cover up for any potential letdown.
