Wisconsin Outlook

Sophomore guard Johnny Davis has been playing as well as anyone in the Big Ten, leading the way for a team that has just three upperclassmen.

Davis is 13th in the nation in scoring at 20.8 points a game and has scored at least 15 points in all 12 games. He is also averaging 6.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 83.6 from the free throw line.

In the win over Illinois State, Davis had his first career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, though he shot just 6-of-23. He added four assists.

Wisconsin got big contributions from two of its big men. Sophomore forward Steven Crowl scored a career-high 21 points and junior forward Tyler Wahl matched a career best with 18 points.

Crowl made 7 of 8 field goal attempts and just missed a double-double as he had nine rebounds. Crowl had scored 10 points combined in his previous three games.

Wahl did his damage, which included six boards, in just 19 minutes.

And he can play defense.

Freshman guard Chucky Hepburn added 13 points, his third time in double figures in his rookie season.

Senior guard Brad Davison was held to seven points, less than half his 14.5 average, as he made just 1 of 9 field goal attempts.

Wisconsin led by 17 points early in the second half. The Badgers withstood a late rally by Illinois State by making eight free throws in the final minute.

Purdue Outlook

Purdue has the best offensive team in the nation in terms of KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency with 121.6 points per 100 possessions.

Sophomore Zach Edey leads Division I in field goal percentage at 72.8. The 7-foot-4 native of Toronto is averaging 14.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots.

Everyone wants to be Edey.

In the win over Nicholls State, Edey made 7-of-8 field goal attempts and 7-of-9 free throws as he finished with a team-high 21 points, five rebounds and four assists in 19 minutes.

Jaden Ivey added 19 points and has reached double figures in 12 of 13 games this season. He is averaging a team-leading 16.7 points along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Two seniors, forward Trevion Williams (13.3) and guard Sasha Stefanovic (11.5), are also averaging double digits in scoring. Williams is pulling down 9.1 rebounds and handing out 3.2 assists a game while Stefanovic is averaging 3.9 helpers.

Stefanovic scored 14 points against Nicholls State, including knocking down four three-pointers.

Junior guard Isaiah Thompson matched his season high with 15 points after scoring a total of 14 in the previous four games. Sophomore forward Mason Gillis chipped in with 10 points.

Purdue shot a sizzling 57.4% (35-of-61) and went 14-for-29 (48.3%) from beyond the arc while establishing a season high for points.

Wisconsin vs Purdue Prediction

Purdue has won three of the last four games in the series and seven of the last nine. The teams split two games in 2020-21 with each winning by four points at home.

The second matchup was at Purdue and Edey led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds while Ivey added 18 points. Wisconsin got 15 points from Davison.

Purdue is unbeaten at Mackey Arena and its average margin of victory in eight games is 28.0 points. Look for the high-powered Boilermakers to keep rolling against one of their favorite foes.

The Pick: Purdue -13 (-110)
