The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open boasts an impressive field at TPC Summerlin with reigning US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau competing along with 2020’s other major winner, Collin Morikawa.
Low scores are at a premium in Las Vegas, with all but one of the 37 champions in this tournament’s history recording a double digit under par winning score, with 2017 champion Patrick Cantlay the lone exception.
Eleven of the top 25 players in the world are competing this week, making this one of the strongest collection of players teeing it up at this tournament in recent history.

DeChambeau Playing for First Time Since US Open Victory
There are two golfers that stick out in a big way for their success at this tournament, and one of them is Bryson DeChambeau. Even if he hadn’t played well here in the past, the ‘Mad Scientist’ would have to be on your radar after a dominant performance at last month’s US Open.
"Hitting it past 320 is the goal. Every time."

Not only is he coming into this event on a high following his impressive performance at Winged Foot, but DeChambeau has been really solid at this tournament also, having won in 2018. He was also T-4th in his title defense last year and T-7th in 2017.
His +700 odds to earn victory are so minuscule, however, that it’s hard to pull the trigger on him at such a low price so I’d rather find a bit more value elsewhere with a player who’s been even better on this track.
Patrick Cantlay Has Been Money at This Event
The player that I’d be most interested in backing this week is Patrick Cantlay, who absolutely loves TPC Summerlin.
In the last three years he’s notched a victory in 2017, and then finished runner-up the two subsequent years, losing to DeChambeau by one in 2018 and dropping a playoff to Kevin Na last year.

It’s hard to get any better than that track record, and Cantlay somewhat surprisingly has juicy odds at +1800 this week. While he hasn’t been spectacular of late with a T-12 his best showing in his last six times teeing it up, he’s played the weekend in eleven of twelve tournaments in 2020 and has posted a top-20 finish in half of them.
Last Five Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Winners
Year | Winner |
---|---|
2019 | Kevin Na (-23) playoff |
2018 | Bryson DeChambeau (-21) |
2017 | Patrick Cantlay (-9) playoff |
2016 | Rod Pampling (-20) |
2015 | Smylie Kaufman (-16) |
Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Best Value Picks
- Cameron Davis (+5000): Held the 54-hole co-lead at last weekend’s Sanderson Farms Championship before finishing T-6th. Has made six straight cuts with a T-36th his worst showing of the bunch. Fifth in birdie average in the young 2020-21 season and has been knocking on the door for his first PGA Tour victory.
- Joaquin Niemann (+6600): Very nearly won his second title as he held the back nine lead at the BMW Championship before settling for T-3rd. Sixth in strokes gained: putting on the campaign. Posted a top-10 in his tournament debut in 2018.
- Lucas Glover (+8000): Has been Mr. Consistent on this track in his last three times out, recording a third place finish in 2016, T-7 in 2018 and T-9 last year.
