Chicago vs Minnesota Probable Pitchers

Lucas Giolito (10-9, 5.05) is scheduled to pitch for the White Sox against Twins rookie Louie Varland (0-2, 5.06). Both will be starting on five days of rest.

In 18 career starts against the Twins, Giolito has a 7-8 record and 4.30 ERA. He is 5-2 at Target Field in nine starts with a 3.35 ERA.

Giolito is 6-2 with a 3.84 ERA in 15 road starts this season. In the day, he has a 3-3 mark and 5.25 ERA in 10 starts. The White Sox are 11-17 when Giolito takes the hill.

Varland will be making his fourth career start. He faces the Los Angeles Angels last Friday in Minneapolis and had a no-decision while giving up three runs and seven hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out three and walk one.

This will be Varland’s first career start against the White Sox. Last Friday marked his first outing at Target Field, which was surely a thrill for the Twin Cities native.

Varland has pitched twice in the daytime, going 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA. The Twins have lost all three of his starts.
