Bello Is 1-0 vs Schmidt This Season
There’s very recent history to draw upon in the pitching matchup for this game. Only six days ago at Yankee Stadium, the Red Sox beat the Yankees and right-hander Clarke Schmidt 3-2 behind the pitching of Boston righty Brayan Bello. However, neither starter figured in the decision.

Bello checked New York on three hits and two earned runs over seven innings of work. Schmidt was also solid, allowing just four hits and one earned run, a solo homer by Justin Turner, through 5.1 innings on the bump.

The outcome halted a three-game losing skid for Bello. Prior to that, he’d won his previous three starts. Bello is 0-2 in three career starts against the Yankees. It should be noted, though, that his ERA in those games is 1.50 and his WHIP is 1.11.

New York has lost Schmidt’s last four starts, although he’s just 0-2 over that span of games. His last win came on May 19. Overall this season, the Yankees are 4-10 SU when Schmidt is their starting pitcher.
Schmidt has made five career appearances facing the Red Sox, including one start. He’s 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA. In 12 innings of work, he’s given up four home runs to Boston batters. However, in Schmidt’s only previous appearance at Fenway Park, he worked two innings of shutout, hitless ball, striking out three.
Trio of Red Sox Batters Took Schmidt Deep
Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran is 2-for-3 (.667) when facing Schmidt. Catcher Reese McGuire is 1-for-3 (.333) with a homer and three RBI. Outfielder Alex Verdugo is also 1-for-3. DH Turner is 1-for-2 (.500) with that solo homer.
