Boston is fresh off a much-needed win over the Bulls on Friday, while the Knicks battled hard in a come-from-behind victory against the 76ers on the road. Both teams will be playing the tail-end of a back-to-back come Saturday’s contest.

The Celtics are a -4.5 road favorite here, with moneyline odds of -180. The Knicks come back at +152. Boston is just 3-5 against the spread in 2022-23, while New York is 4-4.

Tatum Continues to Shine

Boston might be just 5-3, but Jayson Tatum continues to play at an MVP level. He’s now averaging 30.1 points, eight rebounds, and 3.9 assists while shooting 38% from downtown and by no surprise, he was once again the leading catalyst in Friday’s win.

Tatum dropped a 36-piece on the Bulls, also grabbing 12 boards and dishing out six dimes. His 8 for 23 clip from the field was by no means efficient, but the former Duke standout didn’t stop being aggressive. Malcolm Brogdon complemented Tatum with 25 points off the bench as well.

The C’s struggled to shoot the ball from deep but did a good job of imposing their will down low, outscoring Chicago 52-34 in the paint. DeMar DeRozan’s 46 points almost led his team to a comeback, but the Celtics ultimately held on.

Hopefully, they can find their three-point stroke because it’s a frequent source of offense, ranking 8th in the league with a 38% clip. This is Boston’s first back-to-back of the campaign so far.

Knicks Coming Off Statement Win

Playing the Sixers is never easy. However, they didn’t have Joel Embiid or James Harden, which should’ve motivated the Knicks. Well into the third quarter, it looked like Tom Thibodeau’s squad would falter and lose their fourth game in a row. That’s until they outscored Philly 32-21 in the final period and came away with a crucial win.

While the 76ers aren’t exactly a fantastic team without their star duo, it was still a gritty performance from New York. Jalen Brunson balled out for 23 points, seven assists, and six boards, while RJ Barrett also poured in 22. Overall, there wasn’t one specific area where the Knicks thrived. They just grinded until the final buzzer and outworked Philadelphia down the stretch. Obi Toppin really came up big in the fourth as well, scoring 13 of his 17 points.

Depleted or not, NY can thrive off this victory and hopefully take that momentum back home for Saturday’s matchup. This is also their first back-to-back. It’s also important to note the Knicks are flouring at Madison Square Garden, going 3-1.

Boston was really clicking on Friday and to be frank, they’re just a better team than New York. The spread isn’t huge, either. They’ll cover on the road.
