The NBA heads into its last week of preseason games before the 2022-23 campaign officially begins on October 18th. On Monday, there are a total of four contests on the slate, headlined by an intriguing Eastern Conference matchup between the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers. Also in the East, the Washington Wizards face the Charlotte Hornets.

In the West, the Phoenix Suns take on the Denver Nuggets in the Mile High City, while the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets also clash. Read on for the NBA preseason picks.

NBA Preseason Odds – Monday, October 10th

The Heat are the heaviest favorite on Monday, laying 8.5 points against the Rockets. The closest contest is expected to be between the 76ers and Cavs, with the spread at just one point.

Pick #1: 76ers vs Cavaliers

Monday will be another glimpse into what could be a fierce rivalry this season in the East. The 76ers are off to a perfect 2-0 start in the preseason, beating the Nets and then the Cavs on Wednesday night at home in a 113-112 nailbiter.

Tyrese Maxey continued to shine, leading the squad with 21 points in just 15 minutes of action. Joel Embiid also had 12 points, six boards, and three assists. While Philly struggled to shoot the ball from deep (29%), they did lots of damage inside, outscoring Cleveland 62-48 in the paint.

Wednesday was the Cavs’ first game of the preseason and a first look at the backcourt of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. The guards were the best players on the floor for J.B. Bickerstaff’s group, showing solid chemistry. They combined for 28 points and nine dimes. Cleveland had the hot hand from deep, too, draining 42% of their triples. Mitchell and Kevin Love sank three treys apiece.

The spread is obviously slim here, but I like Cleveland on the moneyline to pull one out in front of their home crowd in the NBA preseason picks.

Pick: Cavs moneyline -115

Pick #2: Suns vs Nuggets

Phoenix is searching for their second victory of the preseason after a 1-1 start. Last Wednesday, the Suns took down the Lakers in Vegas, 119-115. They absolutely bodied LA on the glass, outrebounding them 55-47 overall and 16-6 on offensive boards. The entire rotation contributed to the win as well, with six different scorers finishing in double-digits.

By no surprise, Devin Booker was the leading catalyst with 22 points. “Point God” Chris Paul had 13 points and 10 assists, too, doing what he does best.

The Nuggets are 0-2 thus far but it’s important to note Nikola Jokic didn’t play on Friday due to a wrist injury. He’s questionable here and it’s unlikely Denver rushes him back. Michael Malone’s team was beaten 131-113 by the Bulls most recently, but that came down to Chicago shooting the lights out of the gym in every aspect. A positive takeaway though was Michael Porter Jr pouring in 20 points in just 22 minutes. He missed most of last season because of a back injury. Bones Hyland also dropped a 24-piece in the loss.

With Jokic probably out, it’s a no-brainer to take the Suns here.
