Both the Eagles and Chiefs are coming off weeks with extra rest, having played on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Eagles got off to a solid start in Week 1 with three rushing touchdowns, leading them to a season-opening victory (240-20 vs Dallas). Jalen Hurts was sharp, completing 82.6% of his passes and rushing for two touchdowns. Reigning Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley had a middling game on the ground, but he did find the end zone.
Patrick Mahomes had an effective Week 1, posting 315 yards and a pair of touchdowns despite losing Xavier Worthy on the third snap of the game in a 27-21 loss to the Chargers in Brazil. Beyond Mahomes, Marquise Brown stepped up with 10 catches for 99 yards. Travis Kelce had a vintage moment, catching a long touchdown. However, the Chiefs’ defense buckled under the pressure, yielding 394 total yards and 27 points.
Look for the Chiefs to bounce back and avoid their first 0-2 start since 2014.
Eagles-Chiefs Predictions
Jalen Carter’s Productive Return
Carter was ejected from Week 1’s game before playing a snap after spitting on Dak Prescott. A top-ten favorite in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year odds, Carter has registered five pressures in his two games against the Chiefs. While he has yet to record a sack against the Chiefs, watch for him to come out with vengeance and get to Patrick Mahomes for a sack.
Tyquan Thornton to Replace Worthy
While Thornton was a draft bust with the Patriots, he had a solid debut performance with the Chiefs. He could be the Chiefs’ WR2 with both Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice out. He is the best bet for the Chiefs to take the top off the defense and put a long touchdown on the board.
Bounceback Game from AJ Brown
Brown was targeted just once in Week 1, catching an eight-yard pass. He had had at least four targets in every game he had played with the Eagles besides a rest Week 17 in 2023. Brown should be in line for at least eight targets on Sunday afternoon. His next touchdown would be his 50th career receiving touchdown.
Eagles vs Chiefs Betting Lines
The Eagles are slight road favorites in the Week 2 NFL odds with the total between 46.5 and 47.5. Over bettors should take FanDuel’s line of over 46.5 at -112 odds. Under bettors should take DraftKings’ line of under 47.5 at -125 odds.
Eagles bettors can get the Birds on the spread at -1 at Caesars with -110 odds or -116 on the moneyline at FanDuel. Chiefs bettors can bet the Chiefs at +1.5 on the spread at DraftKings (-112 odds) or at +105 on the moneyline at either DK or ESPN Bet.
