No. 3 Utah hosts No. 7 / No. 9 CFP BYU on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, with kickoff set for noon ET. Both teams sit in the AP Top 10 – the first time in the history of the rivalry – so this rivalry game carries real playoff weight.
Utah is coming off a 49-25 win over Cincinnati, while BYU beat Arizona State 27-20, rebounding from its loss to UCF.
This one comes down to whether BYU’s defense can slow Utah’s scoring pace. Here’s where I land, along with the current Kalshi prices. Compare prices with our college football betting apps.
BYU vs Utah Prediction
- Pick: Utah moneyline
Utah averages 38.9 points per game, and it finishes drives. The Utes have scored on 34 of 40 red-zone trips and reached the end zone on 29 of them, a 72.5% touchdown rate.
My BYU vs Utah prediction rests on the Utes’ broader offensive advantage: 485.4 yards and 38.9 points per game, compared with BYU’s 397.9 yards and 32.4 points. Devon Dampier has thrown for 1,876 yards and 18 touchdowns, giving Utah a productive passing game to complement its 1,815 rushing yards.
Utah moneyline costs 63¢, implying roughly a 63% chance to win before fees. I prefer backing that offense at home without needing the Utes to cover a rivalry-game spread.
BYU running back LJ Martin was upgraded to questionable on the Big 12’s latest availability report. His potential return would help the Cougars, but he is not confirmed to play.
One potential angle outside of the scope of BYU vs Utah is betting on Dampier to win the Heisman. Dampier is well down the list in the 2026 Heisman odds, but taking him at 100-to-1 or longer odds is another way to bet on a strong Utah and Dampier performance this afternoon. He can be bet at 125-to-1 at BetRivers right now.
BYU vs Utah Odds
Kalshi prices as of Saturday, Nov. 7.
The market agrees Utah is the likelier winner at 63¢, but it is far less sure about the margin. Utah to win by more than 4.5 points sits at 49¢, close to a coin flip, which makes the moneyline the cleaner way to back the Utes. The total at 48.5 is priced almost evenly on both sides.
BYU vs Utah Stats & Holy War Matchup Analysis
The pressure point is Utah’s pass protection. BYU has 18 sacks this season, and Utah has allowed 17. If the Cougars can turn drives into long-yardage situations, they have a path to keeping this close. On the other side, Utah’s defense has produced only 11 sacks.
Utah’s inconsistent pass rush should give Bear Bachmeier time to work. He has completed 135 of 214 passes for 1,750 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions, and he has added 336 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground.
Legend Glasker (32 catches, 585 yards, four touchdowns) and Kyler Kasper (30 catches, 430 yards, five touchdowns) give him two reliable targets. That balance is why BYU can hang around even if it doesn’t win the game.
BYU allows 100 rushing yards per game and has a +1 turnover margin, with nine takeaways against eight giveaways. The Cougars can make Utah work for its points. Still, the Utes allow just 15.9 points per game themselves, and their stronger offensive production is why I favor Utah in this Holy War matchup.
This is also a game that it’s worthwhile to monitor from a live betting angle. Martin is a major cog in BYU’s potential to win the game. If he plays and looks like his usual self, it might be worth trading into a BYU position.
