- It’s a quiet day in the NHL, with just six games on tap for Sunday, February 28th
- Robert Duff won both of his Thursday picks, leaving his NHL record at 13-9 (+2.58 units won)
- The Philadelphia Flyers have posted back-to-back shutout wins over the Buffalo Sabres
After the busiest day of the season, with 14 games played on Saturday, they’ll dial back the tempo on Sunday. Still, there are some interesting streaks that are ongoing in the six games scheduled that should impact Sunday’s NHL odds.
Lately, the New York Islanders are beating every team except the Pittsburgh Penguins. On the other hand, the Nashville Predators can’t seem to beat any team other than the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers are beating the Buffalo Sabres like a drum.
Both the Islanders (-121) against the Penguins and Predators (-126) facing the Blue Jackets are home favorites as they clash in Sunday afternoon games. Also an afternoon start, the Flyers are the solid -146 road chalk to maintain their hex over the Sabres.

Flyers Fly High
Saturday’s solid 3-0 victory over the Sabres ended a 1-1-2 skid for Philadelphia. It also marked the first time in five games that the Flyers haven’t surrendered three or more goals.
Perhaps what Philly needs to get back on track is more games against the Sabres. Philadelphia has now won six of its last seven games against Buffalo. The Flyers have also covered the puckline in all six of those victories.

They’ve won two in a row at Buffalo. Philadelphia is 4-1 in its last five road games.
Shutout 3-0 by Philly in back-to-back games, the Sabres have gone 121:11 without scoring a goal against the Flyers. Philadelphia back-up goalie Brian Elliott is responsible for posting the consecutive whitewashes against Buffalo, blocking 62 shots in the process.
Coach Alain Vigneault following our 3-0 win over the Sabres: “It was a team effort. It was a team game. We need to get right back at it tomorrow and keep it going.”#AnytimeAnywhere | #PHIvsBUF pic.twitter.com/Wy1IeB8Tga

Overall, the Sabres are 0-1-1 in their last two games and 2-6-1 through their last nine outings. Buffalo goaltender Linus Ullmark is out for a month with a lower-body injury. He was hurt in Thursday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils.
Ullmark is 5-4-2 with a 2.44 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage in 12 games this season. Jonas Johansson will take over as back-up to Carter Hutton while Ullmark is on the sidelines.
Puck drop for this game is 3pm EST. It’s being broadcast regionally by MSG-Buffalo and NBC Sports Philadelphia.
- Pick: Philadelphia Flyers -1.5 (+190), 1 unit
Prey For the Predators
Nashville is 4-3 over its past seven games. That includes a 2-1 mark when facing Columbus.
During this season, Nashville is 4-1 against Columbus. The Chicago Blackhawks (0-2) are the only other team with a losing slate against the Preds this season.

Overall, Nashville has won five of six from Columbus. At Bridgestone Arena, the Predators have won four straight from the Blue Jackets, as well as eight of the past nine games.
However, Columbus coach John Tortorella owns a career 15-7-1 slate in head-to-head meetings with Nashville coach John Hynes. Saturday, the Predators welcomed back defenseman Mattias Ekholm following a six-game absence due to an undisclosed injury and he scored both goals in their 2-1 win over Columbus.
Sunday’s game shows a 3pm EST start and is being carried on the NHL Network.
- Pick: Nashville Predators ML -126, 1 unit
