Isles Extend Streak vs Devils
The surging Islanders will go for an eighth straight victory on Saturday when they take on the slumping Devils at the Prudential Center. The two teams began a three-game series on Thursday in which New York won the opening game by a 5-3 score. The Isles won’t have captain Anders Lee for the rematch, as the two-way forward is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury.
While the Islanders won’t have their captain, there’s still plenty of reason to back the hottest team in the NHL. The Isles are playing outstanding defensive hockey and have one of the most consistent blue lines in the league. Ryan Pulock, Nick Leddy, Andy Greene, Scott Mayfield, Noah Dobson and Adam Pelech all registered a point on Thursday and are the primary reason the Isles have the second-best GAA in the NHL.

While the Isles are 9-0-1 in their last 10 games, the Devils have just one victory in their last eight contests. They’ve allowed at least five goals in four of their last five outings, and goalie MacKenzie Blackwood has really cooled off after a hot start. That hasn’t been the case with New York netminders Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov, who continue to form one of the league’s most reliable tandems.
New Jersey is going to struggle to generate chances against this stout defense. You have to go back to 2018 for the last time the Devils scored more than three goals against the Isles. Mat Barzal and Jordan Eberle should be be able to create plenty of chances against this susceptible defense, especially on the power play against the league’s worst penalty kill. Back the Isles on the puck line to extend their win streak to eight.
Pick: Islanders -1.5 (+155)
Flames Continue Strong Defense Under Sutter
The Darryl Sutter era in Calgary is off to a promising start after the Flames defeated the Habs by a 2-1 scores in the coaches’ first game back behind the bench Thursday. The Flames allowed a season-low 18 shots on goal and got two goals from bottom-six forward josh Leivo.
The performance against Montreal is exactly what Sutter is going to want from his team in Saturday’s rematch. The Flames appeared more structured and did a great job controlling the time of possession. Sutter is known for coaching strong defensive teams, so if this style of play continues for Calgary, expect the “under” to be a popular betting trend in the second half of the season.

After Jake Allen got the nod in goal for Montreal on Thursday, the Habs are expected to turn to the red-hot Carey Price for Saturday’s game. Price has allowed a single goal in four consecutive starts and could get into a goalie duel with the Jacob Markstrom, who owns a stellar .982 save percentage in two starts against the Habs.
The “under” has cashed in seven of the last nine meetings between the two clubs. With the Flames’ playing more responsible hockey and Price on a hot streak, expect a low-scoring affair Saturday.
Pick: Under 5.5 (-107)
