Coppa Italia Semifinals Leg 2: Juventus vs Inter Milan & Atalanta vs Napoli

Italy’s Coppa Italia has reached leg two of the semifinals with two matches this week on February 9th and 10th. Juventus will host Inter Milan on Tuesday, while Atalanta hosts Napoli on Wednesday.

After leg one results saw Juventus win 2-1 and Atalanta and Napoli draw 0-0, everything is still on the table this week as all four teams are still alive to be playing the final on March 19 at the San Siro.

Juventus vs Inter Milan Coppa Italia Odds

Leg two of the Coppa Italia kicks off at 2:45 pm EST on Tuesday afternoon with Juventus hosting Inter Milan.

Inter will need to pull out all the stops as they fell 2-1 in the first leg last week. This, depsite taking an early lead with Alexis Sanchez setting up Lautaro Martinez. The lead wouldn’t last long with Ronaldo scoring on a penalty and adding a second soon after from a turnover in the first half.

Inter were missing the services the Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi who were suspended, but both are in line to return for leg two. Arturo Vidal though, picked up a yellow card last match which will see him miss out on Tuesday.

Juve are flying right now, currently on a six-match winning streak across all competitions, while also has seen them keep five clean sheets in that stretch.

The one goal they allowed was last week against Inter. They also lost to the Nerazzurri last month in the league 2-0 on January 17.

In Serie A, Juve trails Inter by five points, in third overall spot, and have won three-straight after topping Roma 2-0 this weekend.

Inter were 2-0 winners over Sampdoria last Friday so will have the benefit of a little extra rest. In the league, they are undefeated in five and overall in all competitions have lost just twice in their past 18 matches.

Already being behind and having lost at home, Inter have no choice but to attack. Their offense, which ranks second in Serie A in expected goals at 43.5 according to FBRef, and first overall in totals goals with 51 will be boosted by Lukaku’s return.

I think they should be able to find the scoresheet, but being forced to attack will likely create opportunities for Juventus on offense as well. You’re likely safe backing both teams to score (-150) or both teams to score and OVER 2.5 goals at +110. Should both score, Inter will still need to push for a second. Regardless I think we see at least three goals in this match and will bet the totals market.

Atalanta vs Napoli Coppa Italia Odds

After last week’s 0-0 draw in Naples, everything is still on the table when these two meet in leg two at 2:45 pm EST Wednesday afternoon. Despite both teams being more known for their offense, there were just six shots on target, two for Napoli and four for Atalanta.

These teams sit side-by-side in the Serie A table, both with 37 points, with Napoli in sixth and Atalanta in seventh.

Both are coming off dissapointing results this weekend and neither find themselves in the best of form right now.

Napoli fell 2-1 to 12th place Genoa, and found themselves down 2-0 just 26 minutes into the match. Their lone goal didn’t come until the 79′ minute when Matteo Politano found the scoresheet.

Napoli have now lost two of three, with their only win coming against a horribly out of form 19th place Parma.

The story isn’t much better on the Atalanta side. La Dea looked well on their way to taking all three points at home to Torino on the weekend, leading 3-0 after 21 minutes. However, they concedd twice before half to only lead 3-2 at the mid-way mark. The score likely should have been 3-3 considering Andrea Belotti missed a penalty. Federico Bonazzoli then drew the Toros level in the 84′ minute to give Torino a share of the points.

Atalanta have now won just once in their past five in the league, conceding six goals in their past two. It’s not all bad though for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, as across all competitions Atalanta have still lost just once in 17 matches.

Gasperini is still looking to win a trophy with this group of players and advancing to the Coppa Italia Finals may be his best chance. Meanwhile, Gennaro Gattuso’s place with Napoli is on shaky ground as reports are President Aurelio De Laurentiis is already looking for his replacement. The results of late have been poor and it’s possible he may not see next week should depending how Napoli fairs against Atalanta in midweek and Juventus on the weekend.

Napoli are the current Coppa Italia champions, breaking Juve’s streak of five-straight cup wins. It’s not that reaching the final again won’t be important, but I think it may mean just a little more for Atalanta. Napoli could possibly also be looking ahead to a huge clash with Juventus this weekend.

That match, could see Napoli holding somewhat of a grudge. The two sides were slated to play earlier this season, however, due to come positive COVID tests, health officials denied Napoli the ability to travel to play the match. Juventus proceeded as if the match was going to be played even knowing Napoli could not attend. Originally Napoli was given a default (0-3 loss) result in the table. That was later overturned by the Italian Olympic Committee. Juventus also recently got the best of Napoli in the Super Cup.

At home, in better form and with Napoli with perhaps one eye to the weekend, I see Atalanta advancing to the final.
