Divisional rivalries highlight the MLB schedule this weekend. The New York Yankees look to extend their lead atop the MLB standings as they visit the Boston Red Sox, while the Minnesota Twins aim to bury Cleveland’s postseason hopes in their three-game home series with the Indians.
We have odds for each of these new series as well as every other series kicking off on Friday.

Boston Red Sox | -105 |

Yankees Renew Rivalry at Fenway Park
The Yankees will be looking to build on their MLB-leading 92-49 record when they open a four-game weekend series with the arch-rival Red Sox.
New York has returned to form after battling through a four-game slide in mid-August, posting victories in four straight series, and racking up a 9-3 record over their past 12 outings. New York’s current surge has not been overlooked on the World Series futures, where the club has improved to +350.
The #Yankees pitching staff gives up 4.39 runs per 9 inn, so the key to success is for the offense to score >4 runs a game.
Yanks have scored >4 runs in 84 gms this season w/ a rec. of 73-11 (.869 W%), best in #MLB.
When scoring <4 runs, 19-38 (.333 W%), 3rd best in AL.

Despite their recent success, which has featured road series wins over the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners, the Yankees continue to produce streaky results away from Yankee Stadium. The club has lost three in a road on the road on three occasions since early July, including three of four in Boston to close out the month of July. With that series loss, the Yankees fell to 7-12 in their past 19 road dates with the Red Sox.
Yankees vs Red Sox Probable Starting Pitchers
Domingo German | September 6 | Jhoulys Chacin |
J.A. Happ | September 7 | TBD |
Masahiro Tanaka | September 8 | Rick Porcello |
James Paxton | September 9 | Eduardo Rodriguez |
The Red Sox find themselves in desperation mode in their bid to return to the postseason. Boston enters the weekend 6.5 games back of Oakland for the second AL wild card, and has done little to help its own cause while posting just two wins in five outings this week. The club has particularly struggled on home turf of late, going 1-4 in their past five outings at Fenway, and are 8-11 since taking three straight from New York in late July.

Boston hopes a pair of starters that have battled through disappointing seasons can turn it around this weekend. Jhoulys Chacin is expected to make his Red Sox debut on Friday. Released by Milwaukee two weeks ago, the 31-year-old hasn’t pitched since July 24 due to injury, and owns a 3-10 record with a 5.79 ERA this season.
Sunday’s projected starter Rick Porcello has also struggled at times, surrendering six earned runs over 4.0 innings to take loss in Tuesday’s 6-5 loss to Minnesota, and has surrendered 14 earned runs in 11 innings over three starts against the Yankees this season, going 1-1.
Pick: Yankees (-115)
Cleveland Indians vs Minnesota Twins Prices
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Cleveland Indians | -105 |
Minnesota Twins | -115 |
Twins Aim to Extend AL Central Lead Against Indians
The Cleveland Indians face what is likely their last best chance to close the gap on first-place Minnesota in the AL Central standings when they kick off a three-game weekend series with the Twins on Friday night.
With just two wins in their past seven outings, the Indians now sit 6.5 games back of Minnesota in the divisional standings, and also find themselves outside the postseason picture, one game back of Oakland in the race for the second AL wild card.
Cleveland struggled to earn a split in a four-game series with Chicago this week, capped by a lopsided 7-1 loss to the White Sox on Thursday.

The Indians have particularly struggled of late against opponents in postseason contention. The club was swept in a crucial three-game series in Tampa Bay last week, and also suffered series defeats against Boston and the New York Mets, while eking out a four-game split with the Yankees.
However, the Indians took three of four from the Twins in their last visit to Target Field in mid-August, and are 7-6 against Minnesota this season.
Indians vs Twins Probable Starting Pitchers
Adam Plutko | September 6 | Michael Pineda |
Aaron Civale | September 7 | Jake Odorizzi |
Mike Clevinger | September 8 | TBD |
The Twins return home on a high after taking two of three in Boston this week, capped by Thursday’s narrow 2-1 victory that lifted them to 10-2 in their past 12 contests.
While Thursday’s contest proved to be a low-scoring affair, the Twins bats have remained lively during the team’s current surge. Minnesota has tallied a respectable 6.5 runs per game over their past 12 while setting a new Major League record for most home runs in a season.

The Twins have struggled badly at times on home turf since coming out of the All-Star Break. The club has gone 11-13 in 24 contests, with their only two series victories coming against Detroit and Kansas City, including a three-game sweep of the lowly Royals back in early August.
However, faced with the opportunity to bury Cleveland’s hopes of a fourth straight AL Central title, the Twins provide a lot of value as narrow betting chalk.
Pick: Twins (-115)
