Braves Poised to Clinch NL East Title Against Phillies
Atlanta will be aiming to clinch a second straight NL East title when they open a three-game series with the division rival Phillies this week.
The Braves have already nailed down a playoff spot with Saturday’s 10-1 rout of the Washington Nationals, but have struggled to produce consistent results over the past week, going 3-3 on their recent road trip, and 3-4 in their past seven overall.
The #Braves' Magic Number stands at 3. If the Braves beat the Phillies tonight and the Nationals lose their next 2 games in St. Louis, then Atlanta would clinch the NL East prior to its game vs. Philadelphia on Wednesday night. Cards & Nats play at 1:15 on Wednesday afternoon.

Those struggles have not been a problem when the Braves play at home. Atlanta has been red-hot at SunTrust Park, going 13-1 over their past 14, and have dominated the Phillies when they come to town, posting wins in 12 of 16 meetings since the beginning of the 2018 MLB season. However, the Braves were forced to settle for a split in a four-game series in Philadelphia last week.

Now trailing the Chicago Cubs by five games in the NL wild card race with just 14 games remaining, the Phillies have struggled to maintain momentum during this season’s home stretch, going 21-20 since August 1. The club embarks on their final road trip of the season after dropping a pair of decisions to the Boston Red Sox, ending their recent six-game home stand with a middling 2-4 record.

Generating steady offense has emerged as a concern in Philadelphia. The Phillies scored just seven total runs in the four losses on their recent home stand. That has contributed to an unsteady run that has seen the club post consecutive wins on just two occasions over their past 22 outings. However, the Phillies managed avoid defeat in three of their past four road series, and would like nothing more than to delay the Braves bid to clinch first place in the division.
Pick: Braves (-240)

Red Sox Playing for Pride in Interleague Clash with Giants
The Red Sox will be aiming to build on a three-game win streak when they return home for a three-game interleague series with the San Francisco Giants that kicks off on Tuesday night.
Boston completed the sweep of a two-game series in Philadelphia with a 6-3 victory on Sunday, but the club’s current surge comes on the heels of a 3-8 run that has all but eliminated the defending World Series champions from postseason contention.

Returning to Fenway Park riding a three-game losing streak on home turf, they are a dismal 2-7 in their past nine home contests. The club has also produced mixed results in recent interleague clashes with National League opponents.
The Red Sox have gone 5-1 in their past six, all on the road, but are winless in four straight home dates, while getting outscored by a wide 26-10 margin.

Logan Webb | September 17 | Nathan Eovaldi |
Jeff Samardzija | September 18 | Jhoulys Chacin |
Madison Bumgarner | September 19 | Eduardo Rodriguez |
The Giants will be aiming for their first-ever interleague victory in Boston when they open a six-game Eastern swing on Tuesday. San Francisco is winless in five previous interleague road contests against Boston, but has enjoyed steady success against American League opponents this season, going 6-2 in their past eight overall, and 6-1 in seven interleague road outings.

But while the Giants are coming off series win over Miami, taking two of three from the visiting Marlins over the weekend, they have otherwise struggled. The club has stumbled to a 9-17 record over their past 18 contests, but have enjoyed some success on the road, posting recent series victories over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland A’s and Arizona Diamondbacks. And after allowing just nine total runs over their past four contests, the Giants may be worth a look as lengthy underdogs in this week’s clash with Boston
Pick: Giants (+185)
