- Oddsmakers offer +500 odds Fitzpatrick will get interception
- Former first-round pick has two career pick-offs
- Pittsburgh defense has not recorded an interception this season
Minkah Fitzpatrick makes his highly anticipated debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers, days after being acquired from the Miami Dolphins.
The second-year defensive back, who didn’t want to play corner in Miami, will primarily be used as a free safety when the Steelers match up against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon.
Oddsmakers have set up a prop bet on whether Fitzpatrick will get an interception in Week 3, with “no” coming in as a heavy -800 favorite.
Is there any value in taking “yes”, which pays +500?

Yes | +500 |
No | -800 |

The Steelers thought so highly of Fitzpatrick, the team traded a first-round pick to acquire him from the Dolphins. It was the first time since 1967 that the Steelers traded a first-round pick.
Coming off a strong rookie season, Fitzpatrick’s debut with the Steelers comes after the team dropped its first two games off the season for the first time in six years.

– 85.0 overall
– targeted 1 time in coverage (10 yards)

The Steelers have several question marks concerning the offense after losing Ben Roethlisberger for the season with an elbow injury.
However, the addition of Fitzpatrick bolsters Pittsburgh’s defense immediately.
Two Career Interceptions
Fitzpatrick played all 16 games with the Dolphins last season and recorded two interceptions. His first career pick came in Week 4 against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The last time Fitzpatrick recorded an interception was Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Miami did move the 22-year-old around quite a bit — so much so that Fitzpatrick played safety, linebacker and nickel corner in the Dolphins’ season opener. In total, Fitzpatrick lined up at nine different positions during his time with the Dolphins.
Fitzpatrick also believes his versatility is one of the main reasons the Steelers acquired him and gave up a top pick to do so.

Fitzpatrick Boosts Steelers Defense
In Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick will instantly help a defense that’s allowed the sixth most yards in the NFL (890) through two weeks. Pittsburgh has allowed 61 points and is averaging 31 points against per game.
Heading into Week 3, Fitzpatrick and the Steelers’ defense will face 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who has been responsible with the football through two games.
Wow, Minkah Fitzpatrick, our new Safety, can lay the wood on receivers. What a stud we got. #HereWeGo 🤩 pic.twitter.com/hDnUB3IfOv

Jimmy G has thrown two interceptions — one in each of his first two starts this season — heading into Week 3 against the Steelers.
In 28 career starts, Garoppolo has never played the Steelers, so there is some unfamiliarity going up against the Pittsburgh defense and Fitzpatrick in particular.
The Steelers are still searching for their first interception of the season. Will it come on Sunday and will Fitzpatrick be the recipient?

Fitzpatrick will have to learn an entirely new defensive system in Pittsburgh, which is why the team plans to use him primarily at free safety.
Once the young star becomes acquainted with his new surroundings, the interceptions should start rolling in again too.
Pick: No (-800)
