The Gold Cup will decide its champion this Sunday at 4 PM ET, when the US soccer team takes on Panama in the final at Soldier Field. The Gold Cup is the tournament that decides whose CONCACAF’s champion.
Both teams have been the best in the tournament with Panama as the surprised and the USA as the favorite who fulfilled its favoritism.
Jurgen Klinsmann was sent off late in the 3-1 semifinal win against Honduras after he challenged the referee.
“It was just a reaction out of frustration because fouls had added up throughout the last half an hour. … I just kind of over boiled it. Obviously, you shouldn’t then throw the ball or hit it on the ground. I apologize for that reaction, but it was not meant against the referee, against nobody. It was just frustration because you feel the health of your player (is in jeopardy) in that moment. I apologize for that”, he said.
Panama eliminated Mexico after beating them for the second time in over a week. The Panamanian played an aggressive soccer that didn’t give Mexico much of a chance.
“This hasn’t been something of chance, but of a great work of all the players who have given themselves completely in the field,” Coach Jorge Dely Valdes said. ”
“We played some excellent soccer; we worked well in point tactical and we knew we had opportunities to score,” Dely Valdes said. “I am delighted by the gift the players received and the effort they gave for Panama to qualify to the final.”
The soccer odds have USA listed -240 to win the Gold Cup in the moneyline; a Panama win pays +600 and the draw +300.
