Premier League Matchday 10 Odds & Picks: Liverpool -196 Favorites Against Spurs

With Matchday 10 of the English Premier League season approaching, it’s already looking a bit like a repeat of last season – a two-horse race between Liverpool and Manchester City – although Leicester City and Chelsea are still hanging in there.

In terms of betting value, there’s plenty out there in the EPL and so we’ll have a look and see if we can find some from this weekend’s games.

EPL Pick 1: Manchester City vs. Aston Villa

City’s midweek demolition of Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League will have sent the alarm bells ringing at Villa Park. The Citizens’ blip – an away defeat in Norwich and a home humbling by Wolves – now looks to be well and truly behind them and the 5-1 win over the Italians will also be seen as a shot across the bows of their rivals.

City were also boosted at the weekend by Liverpool dropping their first points of the season – they drew 1-1 with Man Utd at Old Trafford – and closed the gap by winning a tricky one away at Crystal Palace. The gap at the top is now down to six points and Guardiola will consider it ‘close-able’, especially with two games against Liverpool to come.

What City can’t afford to do is slip up in games they should win – like this one against Villa – and so for Dean Smith’s men, this is a massive ask. The Villans are, however, on a decent run and after hammering fellow promotees Norwich 5-1 before the international break, they followed it up with a 2-1 home win over Brighton. And with skipper Jack Grealish relishing life in the Premier League, they will at least head to the Etihad without fear.

This still has home win written all over it, but Villa will have a go, and so don’t be surprised if Villa gets on the scoresheet.

Pick: City to win 3-1 

EPL Pick 2: Liverpool vs. Tottenham

The Reds have hit the smallest of blips if dropping their first points of the season can be classed as such, but their draw at Old Trafford was still a point gained after they had trailed United for most of the second half.

Liverpool’s Holy Grail remains the Premier League title, and Jurgen Klopp’s European champions will see this one as another opportunity to turn the screw on City. Last season, a late Mo Salah strike was enough to give the Reds victory over Spurs in a game the Londoners had dominated but this time around Liverpool will be the ones looking to dominate.

Tottenham’s start to the season has been little short of disastrous, with the 7-2 home defeat by Bayern Munich a particular low, and despite a thumping 5-0 midweek win against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, they are struggling.

Mauricio Pochettino has had to contend with a squad that urgently needs some fresh faces and has shown signs of being unsettled. They haven’t been able to build on last season’s fine Champions League run that took them all the way to the final, and have only won three of their nine EPL games to date.

It’s hard to find a solid argument for anything other than a home win even though Spurs will look to feed off the atmosphere of an expectant Anfield after their midweek success.

Pick: Liverpool to win 2-1 

EPL Pick 3: Norwich City vs. Manchester United

Norwich picked up their first away point of the season last Saturday when they earned a 0-0 draw at Bournemouth. For City coach Daniel Farke this was a significant result given it was also their first clean sheet of the season and their first goal scored on the road since Teemu Pukki’s consolation on opening day at Anfield.

The Canaries will look to their home win against Manchester City as inspiration and will be hoping the Carrow Road crowd produces a similarly raucous atmosphere for the visit of United. Farke will also be heartened by the easing of his injury crisis, which at one point denied him of the services of ten first-team players.

For United, a long midweek trip to Belgrade in the Champions League may well add to the fatigue levels but equally, they will be buoyed by the draw against Liverpool. Player-for-player, United should win this one comfortably but Norwich will use home advantage to make life difficult for the Reds, who may fade in the second half due to their midweek exertions.
