Mark Magsayo’s Third Fight in America
Magsayo is an unbeaten featherweight contender who is ranked in the top five by both the WBC and IBF. He has carved out a swatch through the Philippines circuit and has also competed in Singapore.
This is Magsayo’s first fight under the mentorship of legendary multi-weight champion Manny Pacquiao. It almost seems like the coming-out party to the boxing world at large is inevitable.

Magsayo has been putting in work with iconic trainer Freddie Roach and a plan is being mapped out for a world championship bid. This after capturing the WBO international featherweight title and the WBC Asian Boxing Council featherweight belt in prior efforts.
His last bout was a lopsided decision win over former WBO bantamweight titleholder Panya Uthok in August of last year.
Rigoberto Hermosillo Rebounding From Two Losses
Jose Haro was initially scheduled for this bout, but bowed out due to personal reasons leading to Hermosillo stepping up. Rigoberto Hermosillo enters this bout on the heels of back-to-back defeats to Manny Robles III and Viktor Slavinskyi.
Hermosillo has faced some admittedly dubious competition throughout his career. He took on multiple debuting opponents, several opponents who had zero victories and up to a dozen losses. Hermosillo has only defeated three opponents with winning records.
It would be a true Rocky-caliber upset if this club circuit-level journeyman fighter were to unseat this surging talent in Magsayo.

These 126 pounders can definitely crack, with Magsayo having a 70% knockout rate and Hermosillo boasting stoppages in 73% of his victories.
Magsayo has a wealth of amateur experience to his credit with around 200 bouts before turning professional. I ultimately think his sharper technique, higher fight IQ, and superior sense of ring generalship will be huge factors in the progression of this bout.
Magsayo vs Hermosillo Tale of the Tape
20-0 | Record | 11-2-1 |
14 | Knockouts | 8 |
5’6 | Height | 5’9 |
68″ | Reach | 69.5″ |
Avalos, Uthok, Hayashi | Significant Wins | No Significant Wins |
Orthodox | Stance | Southpaw |
This prizefight is scheduled for 10 rounds but I don’t think this one goes the distance. Hermosillo has shown durability and has yet to be stopped as a pro pugilist but I think that changes this Saturday.
Magsayo has the superior resume overall and I think getting in there with a better quality of opposition will pay dividends in this outing here.
I think Mark Magsayo gets the stoppage victory inside of six rounds.
Pick: Mark Magsayo (-5000)
Main Card Picks for Magsayo vs Hermosillo
- Paul Kroll vs Lucas Santamaria: This is a solid 10-round co-feature between a pair of rising welterweight prospects. Kroll is undefeated at 7-0 but Santamaria has almost double the pro experience with only a single defeat. I think Santamaria presents good underdog value here and I think he wins via judges’ decision. Pick: Lucas Santamaria (+210)
- Angel Barrientes vs Fernando Ibarra de Anda: This is a six-round featherweight attraction with Angel Barrientes entering the contest with a spotless record. Angel Barrientes has a pair of stoppage victories and I see him achieving the trifecta this weekend. I think Barrientes gets the stoppage win inside of four rounds. Pick: Angel Barrientes (-10000)
- Chavez Barrientes vs Ivan Varela: This is also a featherweight bout scheduled for six rounds and features another Barrientes twin. Chavez Barrientes has a pair of KO wins with both of the knockouts happening in the opening frame. I think this bout will result in a stoppage but I see Barrientes getting it done inside of three rounds. Pick: Chavez Barrientes (-10000)
