The World Cup Brazil 2014 group H has to be the most difficult to understand amongst the eight in the tournament, with four nontraditional teams playing for two spots, Belgium, Algeria, South Korea and Russia.
Belgium is the head of the group, but this will be their first appearance since 2002. They used to be a reliable team from Europe, but didn’t have good enough teams in the previous two tournaments.
Now the team has tremendous players such as Eden Hazard, a star at Chelsea FC, along with Vincent Kompany and Marouane Fellaini, all playing in the English Premier League. Belgium not only had an impressive qualification series, but their playing style has captivated the eyes of the planet.
Russia needs to do a good tournament considering they will be the host of the next World Cup. The generation that reached the Euro 2008 semifinal is not there anymore, but head coach Fabio Capello is a proven winner and that’s an advantage.
Algeria was in South Africa 2010, but a late goal by London Donovan against US Team didn’t allow them to qualify. Nobody is expecting the Africans to be in the next round.
South Korea should be the x factor; they advanced to the second round four years ago but were eliminated by Uruguay, who ended with the fourth place in the end.
Here are the odds for Group H:
To Qualify
Belgium (1.22), Russia (1.53), South Korea (2.88), Algeria (9)
Not To Qualify
Algeria (1.1), South Korea (1.4), Russia (2.75), Belgium (4.75)
To Finish Bottom
Algeria (1.7), South Korea (3.25), Russia (13), Belgium (26)
Head to Head Odds:
June 17 | Belgium (1.4) vs Algeria (10), Draw (4.8)
June 17 | Russia (2) vs South Korea (4.2), Draw (3.5)
June 22 | Belgium (2.25) vs Russia (3.6), Draw (3.4)
June 22 | South Korea (2.15) vs Algeria (4.1), Draw (3.4)
June 26 | South Korea (5.5) vs Belgium (1.75), Draw (3.8)
June 26 | Algeria (6.75) vs Russia (1.67), Draw (3.9)
