With the 2014 World Cup on their minds, Netherlands and Ghana clash this Saturday at 2:30 PM ET at the De Kuip Stadion, in a preparation game days before Brazil 2014.
Both are on difficult groups in the tournament, which makes this game important to get some sort of shape before it actually matters.
Netherlands is on Group B, along with Spain, Chile, and Australia, but after playing against Ecuador and losing midfielder Rafael Van der Vart, they are mostly looking to avoid any more injuries before the World Cup.
‘It feels like such a relief after such a season with Hamburg. ‘If you come to the national team, the level is higher and there are players there who have won titles. ‘That’s why the mood is so positive, I feel really comfortable here,’ Van der Vart said about joining the Orange, days before getting injured.
Ghana is on Group G, along with Germany, Portugal, and team USA; they have played two World Cups in the past, and always advanced to the second round.
“It is natural that we want to improve,” Kwadwo Asamoah, who also plays as a midfielder for Juventus, said before the team departed for the Netherlands. “In every World Cup, we’ve gone further than the last time, so whether we beat the U.S.A. or not, we have to look at the bigger picture. Even if we don’t beat them, we definitely have to get into the next round.”
Netherlands is listed as the favorites by the soccer money line at -200 while Ghana is +475; the draw is at +280.
