The San Diego Padres will look to complete a three-game series sweep when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers at 10:10 pm ET, Wednesday, at Petco Park.

Joe Musgrove (4-6, 2.28) will start for the Padres against Trevor Bauer (7-5, 2.45). Both right-handers pitched seven scoreless innings their previous time out.

The Padres (44-32) are on a six-game winning streak after losing 13 of 17 games and are slight favorites over the Dodgers. They have won 19 of their last 23 home games, including edging the Dodgers 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Prior to dropping the first two games in this series, the Dodgers (44-29) had won 10 of 12.

San Diego Padres -110 +1.5 (-205) Under 7 (+107)

Odds as of June 23rd.

Bauer Bounces Back

Bauer limited the Arizona Diamondbacks to three hits last Friday in beating them in Phoenix. He had eight strikeouts and three walks after losing his previous two starts.

It was Bauer’s 12th quality start in 15 games this season. He has also pitched six innings in all but one of those starts.

The Padres have given Bauer trouble over the years; he has a 1-4 career record against the Friars with a 4.05 ERA in six starts.

He faced them in back-to-back starts in April, with a no-decision at San Diego on the 18th when he allowed one run in six innings, then a win in Los Angeles six days later, giving up three runs (two earned) in six frames.

The no-decision was the first time Bauer had ever pitched at Petco Park.

Padres third baseman Manny Machado is 12 for 22 (.545) with two doubles and four home runs against Bauer.

Shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. is 2 for 6 and both hits are homers.

Hard Luck Joe

Despite holding the Cincinnati Reds scoreless last Thursday at Petco Park and giving up just four hits, Musgrove got a no-decision. He walked three and struck out two.

It was the first game at Petco Park at full capacity since 2019 and that made for an emotional night for Musgrove, a San Diego-area native.

Musgrove is winless in his last four starts even though he has a fine 2.35 ERA during that span.

Six of Musgrove’s starts this season have been of the quality variety. Those are also each of the six games in which he has worked at least six innings.

Musgrove has never beaten the Dodgers, going 0-3 with a 5.03 ERA in four career starts. He had a no-decision against them on April 25th at Dodger Stadium when he pitched just three innings and yielded two runs (one earned).

Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy, who was activated from the injured list Tuesday, is 5 for 9 with two doubles off Musgrove.

Dodgers center fielder Mookie Betts left Tuesday’s game in the sixth inning because of a stomach illness. His status is questionable for Wednesday.

Padres Turning The Tide

The Padres are 6-3 against the Dodgers this season, including wins in six of the last seven meetings.

That comes after Los Angeles won the season series for 10 straight years from 2011-20. The Dodgers also swept San Diego in three games in a National League Division Series last October.

Jake Cronenworth and rookie Ha-seong Kim both hit home runs Tuesday night to lead the Padres. Mark Melancon pitched the ninth inning for his MLB-leading 22nd save.

Neither Bauer’s history against the Padres nor Musgrove’s against the Dodgers inspires confidence. However, the Padres are rolling right now and there seems to be magic in the air at Petco Park.

The Pick: Padres (-110)
