PSG in Imperious Form
With the Manchester United manager’s job up for grabs at the end of the season, there has been a lot of talk around the future of PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino. But, nevertheless, it has been business as usual in the French capital as the Parisiens march on relentlessly to another Ligue 1 title.
The Man City defeat in the Champions League last week was a minor setback. But on the domestic front they appear imperious and their 3-1 in Saint-Etienne was achieved despite them falling behind in the 23rd-minute. In the end, goals from Marquinhos (2) and Di Maria made it appear a comfortable victory. Even though the two winning goals did not arrive until the final 11 minutes. Interestingly, it was the fifth time this season they have had to come from behind to win.

Thirteen Wins from 15 for PSG
Thirteen wins from PSG’s 15 games and a 12-point gap already opened up to second-placed Rennes, has rendered the title race all but over. That is a perfect response to their surprise second-place last season when Lille shocked everybody by claiming the title with a win on the final day. PSG lost eight games in all of last season, but so far this season they have lost just once and have conceded just 15 goals while scoring 35.

With Lionel Messi now on board, the expectations are huge for Pochettino both domestically and in Europe. But he and his team have managed those expectations really well and, finally, Poch’s other big signing of the summer, Sergio Ramos, has made his long-awaited debut in the dark blue of PSG. The one negative to the win in Saint-Etienne was an injury to Neymar, who now looks set to miss a few weeks.

Nice in With a Chance of Champions League
Nice finished a disappointing ninth in the 2020-21 Ligue 1 table but has improved immeasurably this term and is in with a genuine chance of taking second-spot, behind PSG, and a place in next season’s Champions League. They do however need to start winning consistently again and their back-to-back home defeats against Montpellier and Metz have come at a time when they need to start consistently churning out wins.

The Metz defeat, in particular, was a damaging one as they began the day bottom of the Ligue 1 table and had previously won just once, so coach Christophe Galtier will be looking for a big response from his men in the capital to get their quest for a European place back on track.
Galtier’s Men Over-Achieving
Galtier’s men have clearly over-achieved in the first three months of the season, but have, in the process, given their club a chance to achieve something special. They are certainly not in a position where a trip to the Parc des Princes can be written off before a ball has been kicked and after having conceded just 12 goals all season – three less than PSG – they have the ability to make it a difficult evening for the Parisiens.

PSG vs Nice Prediction
While Neymar will be a miss for the hosts, there is more than enough in the PSG squad to go toe-to-toe with any opponent, either in Europe or domestically. Nice’s rough patch has come at an inopportune time but with a well-organized defense, they always give themselves a chance.
A PSG win is, typically, odds-on while the Nice win is a huge and juicy +650 but it is hard to make a case for the away win or even the draw. For me, there is value in predicting a low-scoring home win.
