It’s a must win for both the Washington Football Team and Philadelphia Eagles Tuesday night, in pursuit of the final Wild Card berth in a jam-packed race with five teams tied with identical 6-7 records to start Week 15.
The two NFC East rivals close out the longest week of the NFL season, as their game was moved to from Sunday due to COVID-19 concerns across the league.
The Eagles, 6.5-point home favorites for this one, should have a significant advantage as Washington is trying to just field a playable roster. As of Friday, Washington had 23 players on the COVID list, including their starting and backup quarterback.
The game goes at 7pm ET at Lincoln Financial Field. The game can be seen live on FOX.

Washington Football Team Outlook
Just a week ago, Washington was riding a 4-game win streak with a real shot at the NFC East crown as they were hosting the Dallas Cowboys.

A week later, they’re not just smarting from a 27-20 loss (where they fell behind 24-0), but a COVID outbreak that’s going to force Ron Rivera’s group to come up with some kind of winning gameplan minus a ton of regulars in the biggest game of the season.
Washington’s COVID list includes starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke and backup Kyle Allen. Because their status won’t be known until close to kickoff, the Football Team signed free agent Garrett Gilbert and could move Kyle Shurmur and Jordan Ta’amu from the practice squad.

There is some relief, as defensive linemen Jonathan Allen was cleared to return to the active roster. Montez Sweat, after coming off IR, was removed from the COVID list too and could be ready Tuesday.
WFT’s roster woes aren’t just through COVID. Receiver Terry McLaurin (concussion protocol), is questionable, as are receiver Curtis Samuel (hamstring) and guard Brandon Scherff (ankle). Running back JD McKissic has been ruled out as he’s in concussion protocol.

One regular that is healthy and could greatly help is running back Antonio Gibson. He struggled against the Cowboys, putting up a season-low 41 scrimmage yards and coughing up a crucial fumble. During Washington’s previous four games, he piled up an average of 107.5 scrimmage yards.
Philadelphia Eagles Outlook
After a 2-5 start, the Eagles have reeled off wins in four of their last six, including Week 13’s 33-18 thumping of the New York Jets to send them into the bye feeling good.
Philly’s offense was run by backup Gardner Minshew, and he was great. The mustachioed man went 20-of-25 passing for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

Both scores went to tight end Dallas Goedert, his first TD receptions since a Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Minshew was in for the injured Jalen Hurts, who was out with a high ankle sprain injury.
All signs are pointing to a Hurts return, and he should find the Washington defense a welcomed one, if he can avoid pressure from their front four. Washington is 30th in passing defense, surrendering 259.1 yards per game.

Philadelphia has also been committed to running the ball during this successful stretch. They’re the first team to rush for at least 175 yards in six straight games since the Chicago Bears did it in seven consecutive games in 1985.
They’ve been doing it by committee, with Miles Sanders, Jordan Howard, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott each contributing, while Hurts is the still the team’s leading rusher.
Football Team vs Eagles Pick
If the Eagles want to make the playoffs, they’re going to need to win some home games. They’re just 1-4 in their first five home dates, but close the year with three of their last four at the Linc.
If that wasn’t enough, the Eagles have lost each of their last three games following a bye week, while Ron Rivera is 7-1 as head coach vs teams coming off a bye.

Unfortunately, I think Washington is dealing with too much to make this a game, especially against an Eagles team that has been soaring since Week 8.
They’re scoring just under 30 points a game, racking up an average 366.3 total yards, including 210.5 on the ground, while completing a crisp 51.2% on third downs. A healthy Washington team would have had trouble dealing with Philly.
