The Dallas Cowboys can clinch the NFC East divisional title with a win on Sunday Night Football, as they play host to the Washington Football team as 10-point favorites. The Cowboys have rebounded from a midseason slump by posting three straight wins, capped by last weekend’s 21-6 victory over the New York Giants.
The Football Team’s playoff hopes have been dimmed by back-to-back defeats, and return to action on short rest in the wake of last weekend’s 27-17 loss in Philadelphia.

Washington vs Cowboys Line Movement
Sunday night’s matchup marks the second meeting between these divisional rivals over the past three weeks. The Cowboys have made slight gains at the sportsbooks since opening at 9.5-point chalk, climbing to their current position at -10. The total has dipped slightly to 47 since opening at 47.5. Dallas ended a two-game slide against Washington by posting a 27-20 victory when these two teams met at FedExField in Week 14.

The Cowboys were outclassed in a 41-16 loss in Washington’s last visit to Dallas in November of last year. That victory snapped a four-game straight up win streak on home turf in head-to-head action with their long-time rivals, in which they averaged an impressive 36.8 points per game. Those offensive explosions have contributed to a steady 9-3 run for the OVER when these two teams meet.
However, the UNDER has paid out in two of their past three meetings. The Cowboys were stunned by a 30-16 loss to Denver as 10-point favorites in their only other outing this season as double-digit home chalk. Washington is 1-1 SU as a double-digit underdog this season, and is 8-3-2 in their past 13 as a big underdog.
Washington Football Team Outlook
Currently trailing the three teams currently battling for the final NFC wild card by a single game, the Football Team enter Week 16 in desperation. A COVID-19 outbreak recently took its toll on the Washington lineup, sidelining several key players including quarterbacks Taylor Heinecke and Kyle Allen. That forced the team to turn to third-string pivot Gilbert Garrett in last week’s loss to the Eagles.
The Washington Football Team announced that the following players had been activated off the COVID list:
QB Taylor Heinicke
LB David Mayo
TE Temarrick Hemingway#WashingtonFootball #FPC #NFL— Full Press NFL (@FullPressNFL) December 23, 2021
After clearing protocols on Friday, Heinecke is expected to return to action on Sunday. The 28-year-old has been a steady presence under center this season, and has connected on seven scoring passes over his past four outings. However, he was roughed up by the Cowboys two weeks ago, getting sacked four times and coughing up a fumble that Dallas returned for a score before leaving the game with an elbow injury.

However, Heinecke may have to work with limited options. Receiver Curtis Samuel remains listed as questionable as he tries to over a hamstring injury. The status of Antonio Gibson is also uncertain. Washington’s top rusher did not participate in practice this week due to a toe injury.
Dallas Cowboys Outlook
Dallas received a big assist from the Tennessee Titans, whose victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football guaranteed the Cowboys a berth in this season’s playoffs. While their focus is now squarely fixed on the NFC East crown and top seeding in the NFC, the Cowboys still have some work to do to overcome some recent offensive woes.

Quarterback Dak Prescott has failed to maintain the prolific form he displayed early in the season. Prescott has tossed for just three scores during the team’s current 3-0 SU run, and was limited to one TD pass against two picks while being sacked four times in the Cowboys’ Week 14 win in Washington. However, Prescott has been dominant while compiling a perfect 4-0 SU career record against Washington on home turf, tossing for nine total TDs against no picks.

The Cowboys’ offense should also get a boost from the return of Tony Pollard. The third-year rusher was hobbled by a foot injury in last week’s win in New York, and further aggravated the injury during practice this past week. However, he carried no injury designation on Friday.
