The AFC West was supposed to be the NFL’s version of the group of death. On paper, a division featuring Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson and Derek Carr should ooze exciting, high-scoring games. However, that simply hasn’t been the case.

Mahomes and the Chiefs have underwhelmed in two straight weeks, while Herbert is trying to play through busted ribs. Wilson and the Broncos might be the worst 2-1 team in the league, while Carr and the Raiders have yet to win a game.

Las Vegas will look to put an end to their winless streak on Sunday when they host Denver in the late afternoon window.

The Raiders opened up as 1.5-point favorites, but that number didn’t last long. They’ve been bet up to -2.5 as of Friday night, and there’s a strong chance the number could reach a field goal by game time. 64% of the spread bets are on Las Vegas, as is 78% of the ATS handle.

Kickoff for this AFC West matchup is set for 4:25 pm ET, inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, while the total is set at 45.5 points.

Las Vegas Raiders Betting Analysis

Each of the Raiders’ three losses have been by one score. They blew a 16-point lead in Week 2 to Arizona before losing in overtime, and last week fell a two-point conversation shy of forcing OT in Tennessee.

The offense has been able to score, ranking 11th in points, but the defense is off to a rough start. They sit bottom-13 in total yards allowed, and 24th in scoring defense.

Carr has thrown multiple touchdown passes in all three games, but has yet to maximize his star wide receiver Davante Adams’ talent. Adams lit up the Chargers secondary for 10-141-1 in Week 1, but since then has only seven catches for 48 yards. He has a 41% reception rate over the past weeks, and life won’t get any easier on Sunday with Patrick Surtain II draped all over him.

Surtain didn’t allow a reception in coverage last week on five targets versus the 49ers, breaking up a pair of passes. The Broncos rank fourth in coverage per Pro Football Focus, and you can’t help but wonder how badly Adams is regretting his decision to leave Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

Injury wise, Las Vegas will once again be without slot receiver Hunter Renfrow due to a concussion.

Denver Broncos Betting Analysis

If not for Surtain and fantastic defensive play all season, Denver might also be winless. The Broncos rank fifth on defense per DVOA, and have surrendered just 34 points all season.

Denver has needed to excel on that side of the ball because their offense has been abysmal. Russell Wilson has led this team to an average of 14.3 points per game, the second worst mark in the NFL. He’s thrown just two touchdown passes so far, while the team is one-for-seven converting touchdowns in the red zone. At this point fans are no longer waiting for Russ to cook, they’re wondering if Russ is cooked.

Denver grades out 28th on offense per PFF, despite having a solid rushing attack. Javonte Willliams and Melvin Gordon III are a formidable two-headed monster in the backfield, but sledding could be tough versus Las Vegas. The Raiders grade out as the league’s ninth-best run defense, but sit bottom-eight in coverage.

On the injury front, the Broncos are down a pair of starting offensive linemen in Quinn Meinerz and Billy Turner, which should increase the ceiling of Las Vegas’ pass rush led by Chandler Jones and Maxx Crosby.

Unders are hitting a historic rate through three weeks, and the Broncos have had a big hand in that. They are 3-0 to the under so far, while their games have produced an average of only 26.3 points.

Dating back to last season, the under is 11-3 in Denver’s last 14 contests and we should expect that trend to continue on Sunday. Their offense is a mess, while their defense is good enough to slow down opponents much stronger than Las Vegas.

The Raiders, on the other hand, have seen just one of their three games go over the total so far. They’ve yet to exceed 23 points in a contest, despite playing Arizona and Tennessee, two of the seven lowest graded teams defensively per DVOA.
