Tuesday evening brings a rather intriguing matchup between two of the most exciting young teams in the West as the Memphis Grizzlies (9-5, 4-4 away) visit the New Orleans Pelicans (7-6, 3-2 home) at the Smoothie King Center in the Big Easy. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET. Catch this contest on TNT.
The Grizz are coming off a loss to the Wizards, but both Ja Morant and Bane were out. The Pels, meanwhile, beat up the Houston Rockets to move above .500 for the time being.

The Pels are 2-point favorites with moneyline odds of -134. Memphis comes in at +114.
The Grizzlies dominated the Pelicans last season, winning three of four meetings by an average of 19.6 points. But NOLA is a much different team in 2022-23, therefore we can expect this one to be a little bit closer.

Grizzlies Will Be Depleted
Memphis is living up to expectations thus far with the duo of Morant and Bane balling out. Ja is averaging 28.8 points, seven assists, and six rebounds per night, while Bane has taken a serious leap, putting up 24.7 points, 4.9 boards, and 4.8 dimes while shooting a blistering 45% from downtown. He’s almost certainly going to miss out on Tuesday due to a heel injury though, but JJJ may play. That could be huge.
The Grizzlies definitely weren’t themselves on Sunday, falling by 10 points to Washington. Without Morant and Bane, there was really no legitimate driving force offensively. Dillon Brooks led the charge with 19 points, while Tyus Jones also had 17.

There were some bright spots for Taylor Jenkins’ squad, but the Wizards continued to respond. Memphis also allowed them to drain 48% of their triples, which certainly played a part in the outcome. Ja’s return will provide an immediate boost on both ends of the floor.
Will Zion Play?
Pelicans star Zion Williamson is making his presence felt early on, but it appears he suffered a foot injury on Saturday against the Rockets. Since this is the front end of a back-to-back, there is a good chance NOLA gives him the night off as a precautionary move.
Zion was impressive the other night, however, scoring a team-high 26 points in just 35 minutes of action while going 8 for 9 from the field. Larry Nance and Brandon Ingram both collected 20+ points as well. This wasn’t the greatest shooting night for the Pels, but they fully capitalized off some very sloppy basketball from Houston.

Stephen Silas’s squad committed 26 turnovers which New Orleans translated into 32 points. Willie Green’s team also had a massive fourth quarter to pull away, outscoring the Rockets 33-19. Williamson is the only player on the injury report for Tuesday’s game.
Grizzlies vs Pelicans Prediction
Both these teams are deep. Whether Zion plays or not, I’m backing the Grizzlies to get it done here. Their recent dominance of New Orleans is a reason to believe a victory is in the cards and the Pelicans aren’t showing a lot of consistency 13 games in.
