Two teams squarely in the running for the top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft clash in Motown, as the the Detroit Pistons (13-39, 6-19 home) host the Charlotte Hornets (15-38, 8-22 road).
The Hornets will be coming in on the second night of a back-to-back, after getting clubbed by the Chicago Bulls on Thursday.
Detroit, meanwhile, will have had three full days of rest before this one. Their most recent game with the Wizards was cancelled, as the team was stuck in Dallas following their loss to the Mavs due to an ice storm.
It all gets underway Friday (Feb 3) at 7pm ET from Little Caesars Arena, in a game you can see live on NBA League Pass.

Charlotte Betting Analysis
It was a rough one in the Windy City, as the Hornets were thumped 114-98 by the Bulls, their third straight loss to them this season.
Tery Rozier led the team in scoring with 23 points and eight rebounds. LaMelo Ball had 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists before getting ejected for arguing a non-call. It was just the 25th game of the season for Ball, an all-star last year.

His season started disastrously with an ankle injury in the preseason that kept him sidelined for the first 13 games. Mason Plumlee was the only other starter in double figures, as he had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Hornets shot just 7-for-35 from downtown in this one, a lowly 20% clip. They’re the worst 3-point shooting team in basketball, hitting at a 32.4% rate. They’re also 2nd-last in field-goal shooting, at 45.2%.
They’ll be shorthanded in this one as well, with wing Cody Martin ruled out with a knee injury.
Detroit Betting Analysis
The only thing the turn of the calendar to 2023 brought the Pistons was more losses. They’ve won just three times in 13 games since Jan 1, the latest a 111-105 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Detroit had no answer for Luka Doncic, who lit them on fire for 53 points.
Bojan Bogdanovic led the Pistons in scoring with 29 points and five rebounds, the only one to crack 20+ points. Saddiq Bey had 18 points and five boards, while Jaden Ivey was the only other player to top double digits, finishing with 14 points and three rebounds.

Detroit struggles defending the paint, giving up 55.4 points per game, the second-worst figure in the league. They’re also 27th in the NBA in second-chance points surrendered. Charlotte is actually top seven in both second-chance points (15.3) and points off turnovers (18.8).
With budding star Cade Cunningham (shin) already done for the year, there’s nothing left for the Pistons to do here but try to develop their younger guys and tank like crazy.

Hornets vs Pistons Betting Prediction
By any metric, these are two of the worst defensive teams in the league. Detroit gives up 120.1 points per game (29th), with Charlotte right behind them in 28th (118.6).
Charlotte has not fared well in the second half of a back-to-back, going just 2-5 straight up, but 3-3-1 against the spread.
The Pistons are just 9-14-1 ATS at home, but they are 6-4 ATS when they have a rest advantage.
Charlotte has been a good bet in Motown, running a 6-1 ATS record in their last seven, and are 12-5 ATS in the last 17 head-to-head meetings.
Look for that trend to continue in an ugly one Friday.
Pick:Â
- Hornets +1 (-110); 1.5 units to win 1.31 units
- NBA Betting Record: 25-22-1 ATS, 1-1 ML, 4-6 o/u, 0-2 parlays; -2.68 units
