  • The Orioles vs Tigers odds favor Baltimore as -130 favorites on Friday
  • Eduardo Rodriguez has allowed just one run over his last 21 innings of work
  • Check out the latest Orioles vs Tigers picks, odds, and probable pitchers

Anyone who thought the Orioles (16-8, 7-4 away) late season push last year was a fluke, has to be ready to concede they were wrong at this point. Baltimore has come racing out of the gates in 2023, posting the second best record in a very competitive AL East division.

The Orioles entered their four-game set versus the Tigers (9-14, 4-4 home) having won 10 of 12, and online sportsbooks expect their strong start to continue on Friday in Detroit. Baltimore has been pegged as road chalk for Game 2 of this series in the MLB odds, as they look to continue their dominance over the Tigers – more on that later.

Baltimore vs Detroit Probable Pitchers

Despite their strong start, Baltimore isn’t getting a ton of love in the World Series odds. They’re still +8000 to win the title, which ranks 18th out 30 teams. At that price, they’re certainly a value, and they’re well on their way to eclipsing their projection in the MLB win totals.

The Orioles will send Grayson Rodriguez to the mound on Friday, who just faced the Tigers last weekend. The rookie struggled in his first three starts in the Majors, but looked awfully comfortable in his 5 innings versus Detroit.

Rodriguez held the Tigers to five hits and no runs, while striking out six. He’s fanned at least six batters in three straight outings, despite not exceeding 5 innings in any of those starts. Rodriguez’s K prop is not yet listed, but any line less than 5.5 would deserve over consideration.

Rodriguez vs Rodriguez Stats

Grayson Rodriguez
VS
Eduardo Rodriguez
0-0 Record 1-2
5.12 ERA 2.32
1.60 WHIP 0.84
.273 OBA .194
2.5 SO/W Ratio 5.0

Detroit meanwhile, will counter with Eduardo Rodriguez. The 30-year-old is on pace for career-best marks in nearly every key category, and has allowed one run over his last 21 innings of work.

Rodriguez is fresh off a brilliant performance versus these same Orioles, holding them to only one hit over 7 innings in a 2-1 extra innings loss. The southpaw has thrown back-to-back scoreless starts, posting a ridiculous 16-to-0 strikeout-to-walk rate along the way.

Orioles vs Tigers Betting Notes

Rodriguez has plenty of experience versus the Baltimore regulars in the MLB lineups, and the results have been pretty one-sided. The Tigers ace has held the O’s to a .191 batting average over 89 at-bats, and a .242 OBP.

The Orioles enter play sitting sixth in MLB in runs per game, and top-10 in steals, OPS and average. They’re fourth in the AL in run differential, but didn’t exactly light up the box score last weekend in a three-game set versus the Tigers. Baltimore scored just nine runs total, but still swept Detroit. Those results had plenty to do with their solid pitching, and Detroit’s woeful offense.

Baltimore is yielding just over 4 runs per game, while the O’s relievers have outperformed every bullpen in baseball. They own a league low 2.78 ERA over 94 innings, and an MLB best 1.8 WAR.

The Tigers lineup on the other hand, is statistically the worst in baseball. No team averages fewer runs per game, or boasts a lower batting average, slugging percentage or OPS.

Orioles vs Tigers Predictions

To make matters worse for Detroit, Javier Baez, who’s supposed to be one of their top-hitters, sat out Thursday’s contest and is questionable for Friday. The Tigers have produced two or fewer runs in six of their last eight games, and were held to only three runs total in their three losses last weekend to Baltimore.

Orioles vs Tigers 2023 H2H Results

Date Away Team Home Team Result
April 23 Tigers Orioles BAL, 2-1
April 22 Tigers Orioles BAL, 5-1
April 21 Tigers Orioles BAL, 2-1

There’s no reason to expect an offensive turnaround on Friday, but at least they should be able to stay competitive thanks to Eduardo Rodriguez’s ridiculous form. Low scoring games have been the norm for Detroit so far, as only two other teams have seen a greater percentage of their outings fall under the total.

All three games last week versus the Orioles fell short of the number, as have four of Rodriguez’s five starts this season.

Pick: Under 7.5 (-110)
