Chelsea (-500) vs. Newcastle United (+1400) (Draw +500)

Chelsea started 2015 on decidedly the wrong foot, blowing an early lead to Spurs and suffering a surprise 5-3 defeat.

On Saturday (January 10), the Blues will host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge in the 21st fixture of the season (10:00 a.m. Eastern), looking to right the ship.

The oddsmakers don’t see Chelsea’s loss to Tottenham turning into a losing streak. The Blues are heavy favorites to prevail on Saturday, sitting at -500 in the moneyline. A Newcastle win will pay +1400, and the draw +500.

After last weekend’s loss, Chelsea saw their lead over Man City at the top of the EPL table evaporate. The teams are now tied with 46 points and identical 14-4-2 records and +25 goal differentials.  With Man City playing arguably their best football of the year (undefeated in ten straight league matches), Chelsea can’t afford another slip.

On the other side, Newcastle United is tenth in the table with 27 points (7-6-7) and a -6 goal difference. Their point total and record are both middling, but the Magpies are the only team besides Spurs to beat Chelsea this season (2-1 on December 6).

Newcastle couldn’t turn that monumental victory into sustained success, though, as they dropped their next three matches, and are just 2-1-3 in their last six.

In the all-time history between Chelsea and Newcastle, the Blues have a slight 55-48 edge (with another 36 games ending in a draw). With this match at Stamford Bridge, expect Chelsea to add another win to their total with ease.
