Week 5 in the NFL kicks off on Thursday Night Football with the San Francisco 49ers (3-1) visiting the Los Angeles Rams (3-1). San Fran enters play extremely shorthanded, missing starting quarterback Brock Purdy, as well as their top-three wide receivers (Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings) and tight end George Kittle.

That means there’s going to be some unfamiliar options for you to choose from in the player prop market. I’ve compiled my favorite bets from tonight’s TNF odds below, so keep reading for the selections and the reasoning behind each pick.

I’m starting my 49ers vs Rams player props card with a fade of Christian McCaffrey. CMC has been racking up big numbers in the passing game, especially with Mac Jones under center, but his rushing production has been minimal.

McCaffrey has a slightly shorter rushing yards over/under than LA’s Kyren Williams, but I’m going to target his longest rush at under 14.5 yards instead.

49ers vs Rams Player Prop Bet #1: Christian McCaffrey Longest Rush

When you think of a Kyle Shanahan offense, you assume rushing efficiency. That hasn’t been the case this year however, as the Niners are averaging only 3.3 yards per carry. They’ve yet to produce an explosive run, and now that their passing game has been decimated by injuries, defenses can stack the box against them without the fear of getting beat over the top.

That’s bad news for McCaffrey who has only one run of 14+ yards in his last eight starts dating back to last season. To make matters worse, the Rams rank 11th in run defense per PFF, and are yielding just 3.9 yards per carry.

49ers vs Rams Prop Bet #2: Puca Nacua Receptions

For my next 49ers vs Rams player prop prediction, I’m making the uncomfortable decision to fade Puca Nacua. His rise to stardom is a major reasoning behind the love for LA in the Super Bowl 60 odds. The 24-year-old leads the NFL in receiving yards and receptions, but I’m betting his volume sees a reduction as an 8.5-point favorite.

On a short week, versus a decimated opponent, LA is likely to lean run heavy when playing from ahead. That makes sense from a matchup perspective as well, since San Fran is top-6 in coverage per PFF, but bottom-11 against the run.

I’m projecting less than 10 targets for Nacua tonight, which makes betting under 8.5 catches a slam dunk, even at the -142 odds.

Moving over to the 49ers vs Rams touchdown props, where the top three options on the board are LA skill position players. Williams leads the anytime TD list with -205 odds, with Nacua and Davante Adams directly behind him.

49ers vs Rams Prop Bet #3: Davante Adams Anytime TD

I want to focus on the ladder name in this market, as Adams is dominating the Rams red zone target share. Nacua might be amassing a ton of volume in between the 20’s, but no player in the NFL has seen more red zone volume than Adams.

His 10 red zone looks are seven more than Nacua has seen, and he enters playing having scored in three straight. Adams was always Aaron Rodgers’ first option in the scoring area, and Matthew Stafford is replicating the strategy with great success.
